Decision Day 2020:
Let's Recognize Seniors with New and Creative Celebrations!

RyanDDayAnn2020
This year, high schools and communities throughout Michigan will be using creative and virtual approaches to celebrate the class of 2020 as part of Decision Day, which is typically commemorated on or around May 1. The initiative mimics National Signing Day for athletes, and celebrates high school seniors who have made the decision to go to college while encouraging younger students and families to prepare for their education beyond high school. This year’s events and activities in Michigan will take place over a two-week period from April 27 to May 8

Michigan College Access Network is leading these efforts to ensure high school seniors are celebrated for their decisions to continue education beyond high school — check out the video from our executive director, Ryan Fewins-Bliss! Due to the global health crisis caused by COVID-19, traditional celebrations and events will not take place. However, there are plenty of ways to recognize students in virtual spaces and by using printed media.

Students will have access to a new statewide Snapchat filter and other social media assets. High schools will use digital platforms like Zoom and WebEx to host online celebrations in addition to working with local printers to create yard signs, community signs, and recognize students via news articles. Colleges will also host online recognition events. Download this schedule of college-hosted celebrations, which will be updated regularly.

MCAN expects more than 400 high schools to participate in Decision Day 2020 activities, which is expected to engage 55,000 members of the class of 2020.
Please consider joining the celebration by participating in these ways:
  • Share Decision Day social media posts from high schools and communities.
  • Take a picture of yourself and/or your staff wearing collegiate attire from April 27 to May 8, and engage in social media using the hashtag #IDecided or #CollegeBoundMI.
  • Go live on social media via Facebook or Instagram and tag the schools in your district.
We hope you join us!
