Excellence in Education Award

Mr. Nichlas Dressel of Chadron Public Schools has been selected as the AdvancED-Nebraska recipient of the 2013 AdvancED Excellence in Education Award to honor his distinguished service and leadership to NCA CASI schools and students.  Mr. Dressel has been a longtime educator in the Nebraska panhandle.  After graduating from Chadron State College, he spent his first few years working in Pine Ridge, South Dakota with Red Cloud High School.  He has worked for the last nine years as an administrator at the high school and middle school level and currently serves as middle school principal at Chadron Public Schools.

He has worked tirelessly to improve opportunities for children in the Nebraska panhandle and has done so in spite of fiscal concerns, distance and resources.  He led the Chadron district as they moved through the process of AdvancED School System Accreditation.  He coordinates the district’s mentoring program for new teachers and is savvy about data and models assessment literacy and goal setting for staff and students.  Mr. Dressel also assisted his staff in reorganization and alignment after the district closed four rural buildings and reassigned staff.  He brought an understanding of cultural issues present in the reservation system when he served on two AdvancED External Review teams for Nebraska Native American Reservation schools.  This year, he will chair an AdvancED External Review team and serve on another team.

Mr. Dressel has been active in the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.  He also is a member of the Chadron Chapter of the Knights of Columbus.  He has shown initiative, leadership and a commitment to work in partnership with all of the regional agencies and schools to create better access and care for learners of all ages.  Congratulations!

AdvancED Transparency Policy Update

While the AdvancED policy regarding transparency has not changed, the practice we use to make reports available to the public has changed.  External Review reports and other reports are no longer automatically posted to the AdvancED website.  The intent of the policy is not to limit the opportunity for schools and school systems to interact with their stakeholders; therefore, when a stakeholder (parent, member of local community, etc.) requests a report through AdvancED, we will ask the person to contact your institution directly.

Our Transparency policy requires that institutions within the AdvancED network provide a copy of reports when requested.  Should our offices be informed of any refusals to provide reports, AdvancED will contact the institution; verify the request; and, if necessary, further explain the policy.  In the unlikely event an institution continues to refuse to provide reports, AdvancED then will provide online, public access to the reports.  Your school can request that AdvancED post your reports prior to requests from the public.  If you would like to have your reports available online, please submit a formal request to our office.  We appreciate your support of our policy and efforts to keep the public informed of your commitment to operational and student excellence.

AdvancED, the home of NCA CASI, NWAC, and SACS CASI, is dedicated to
advancing excellence in education worldwide.
