Act Now and Be Heard
|
“We have to speak up or live with the consequences.” Jason Cleckler, CEO at Delta Memorial Hospital is urging WHA members be proactive in ensuring the Accountable Care Act (ACA) meets the needs of rural healthcare. “Politicians are making decisions for us and unless we let them know the impact of repealing the ACA without a replacement, we will be left with the consequences.”
Congresswoman Diana DeGette of the 1st District (D) and Lieutenant Governor, Donna Lynne (D) held a meeting January 16th, 2017 to better understand the effects of repealing the ACA. She invited the 5 largest health systems in Colorado - University, SCL, Kaiser, Centura and Banner; and two rural hospitals – San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa and Delta County Memorial Hospital in Delta. Up Close with Steve Hannah
|
“If I weren’t so passionate about healthcare and improving the lives of my community, I’d do something with my hands vs. my head.” Steve Hannah, Montrose Memorial Hospital (MMH) CEO and WHA Board Chair has quite an extensive background in healthcare leadership…and, he likes to build things. Big things. Small things. You name it. He’s built and remodeled buildings and houses and an occasional model airplane. Speaking of airplanes, he’s also a private pilot. He’s been flying for 25 years. And when he’s not leading MMH, he enjoys all things outdoors…except hunting, “What I love about Montrose is that it is a wonderful community. The people are friendly and you don’t have to leave the community in order to have fun,” said Steve. read more

Mind Springs Receives $2m Investment from Colorado
Health Foundation |
The only psychiatric hospital between Denver and Salt Lake City operates at full capacity most days, with a significant waiting list for admission. This means that people in the disastrous throes of a mental health emergency and in need of psychiatric hospitalization are forced to languish in emergency rooms, and sometimes even jails, before they receive the lifesaving treatment they so desperately need.
To save lives, Building Sanctuary | Rebuilding Lives, The Campaign for Mind Springs Health and West Springs Hospital, plans to build a new, expanded capacity, advanced treatment psychiatric hospital for our mountain communities and the western slope that will be able to care for, in the proper setting, up to twice as many people. To that outcome, Vice President of Development Roger Sheffield is pleased to announce a pacesetter investment from the Colorado Health Foundation of $2,000,000 towards the campaign fundraising goal of $17,750,000. read more
