AFP-HR Vision Statement

To be recognized as the premier fundraising resource for professionals to learn, collaborate and grow together for a vibrant Hampton Roads community.

President's Letter
Head Shot - 2017 Kenda Council 2

Greetings AFP-Hampton Roads Chapter Members,

Our AFP-HR Board members have been busy calling our AFP Chapter members! They have enjoyed getting to know our members better and finding out how we can improve your chapter experience! If you haven’t yet received your call, be on the lookout for it!

I hope you enjoyed attending our Fundraising Leadership Symposium that took place virtually Tuesday, August 18th. The 2020 Symposium featured Kim Ades with Frame of Mind Coaching and featured the topic: “How Top Leaders THINK During a Crisis.” We had rave reviews! Thank you to Brooks Lively and her FLS Committee for hosting such a great chapter event. Additionally, I’d like to thank AFP Board member, Kate Powell, for helping make sure our technology worked perfectly for the event.

Please save the date for Tuesday, September 15th at noon for our discussion, “Gaining Insight into Donor Diversity.” Our panelists will discuss ways fundraisers can engage and cultivate relationships with donors from diverse backgrounds. The discussion will be moderated by Vivian Oden, Vice President for Special Projects with the Hampton Roads Community Foundation. Read more about the program and register below!

While we will not be hosting our traditional National Philanthropy Day Celebration in November, our NPD committee has been making plans to celebrate the spirit of philanthropy in Hampton Roads. Stay tuned for more information to come soon!

Please take a moment to read our newsletter to learn about scholarship opportunities and the many ways to get involved in our chapter!

Keep up the good work,

Kenda G. Council
2020 President, AFP-HR

IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access)- SURVEY

 Your opinion matters

The Association of Fundraising Professionals - Hampton Roads Chapter's IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access) Committee is conducting a survey seeking demographic data from our chapter members that will be used as part of a larger metric-driven project. The results of this data collection project will be used to drive discussions and action items as we work toward our strategic plan goals as a chapter. When compiled, we believe this information will create meaningful chapter committee discussions that will help us improve representation within our chapter and profession.

Please click the link below to answer this brief 10 question survey. Responses are completely anonymous and will only be used to better understand our chapter.

The subgroup working on this project invites anyone interested to join. While this is a project that will continue to take shape over time, we are excited to get started and look forward to the challenge, and conversations, that will follow. If you’d like to join the group working on this project, please feel free to contact Jessica Johnson, IDEA Committee Chair at jessicaj@petaf.org

Thank you for all that you do for our community and for your help in advancing the future of our AFP chapter!

MENTOR PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM
Mentoring Program

Fall 2020 Mentor Partnership Program announced!

We are happy to announce that applications are now being accepted for the Fall class of the AFP-HR Mentor Partnership Program.

Any AFP-HR member can apply for the five-month mentor program, which pairs fundraisers seeking advice with seasoned professionals.  Discussions are completely confidential, providing a safe place for fundraisers to explore their challenges and opportunities.

The 2020 Fall session will run for five months – September through January. We hope during that time our mentees and mentors will meet regularly (at least monthly) to develop a strong relationship and meaningfully explore pressing topics.

Application Deadline: September 15, 2020
