May 2013

Greetings from AdvancED Montana Director, Daniel Sybrant

 StandardsBooks
It is hard to believe that it has been almost a year since NWAC became the third accrediting division within the AdvancED network. All in all it has been a great year, and we are on our way to a smooth transition to the new AdvancED Standards and Protocols for use next school year. The AdvancED Standards for Quality Schools were piloted by Plentywood High School as well as Sylvan Butte and Sylvan Helena this year. They will be used by 10 schools that are slated for External Review next year. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of our accredited schools in implementing these rigorous Standards. I have no doubt that this process will improve student achievement. Thanks for your continued commitment to excellence, and I look forward to working with you in the upcoming school year.

Sincerely,
Daniel Sybrant
Director

Six Schools in Montana Apply for System Accreditation
With the availability of K-12 AdvancED School System Accreditation, the following Montana schools have officially applied to become system accredited:  Troy Public Schools, Darby Public Schools, Chinook Public Schools, Colstrip Public Schools, Lodge Grass Public Schools and Three Forks Public Schools. These schools either have or will receive an initial readiness review. Once they have been approved as a candidate, they will then have two years to prepare for a system External Review. This review will focus on how the school system aligns programs from Kindergarten through 12th grade and how system leadership, including the school board, works to align programs. Several other Montana school systems have expressed interest in learning more about this comprehensive school improvement model. If you are interested in learning more about this model of accreditation, please don’t hesitate to contact Daniel Sybrant or call 888.413.3669, ext. 5776. We also will provide information about School System Accreditation at our fall conference in Bozeman.
