MOHEG is now MO-ACHE!

Greetings, MO-ACHE members:

Did you notice the new acronym for our Missouri Chapter of the ACHE? Well, the full name is now the Missouri Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

This is our story:

In October 1995 the Metro Health Care Executives of St. Louis corporation was recognized by ACHE as a Healthcare Executives Group. HEG for short. HEGs were local groups in major markets that were informally affiliated with ACHE for educational programs and networking events and the St. Louis HEG was enjoyed by all accounts. There were 84 HEG's in 2001 when the ACHE Governance Task Force recommended chapter formation. The purpose of chapters was to increase member engagement and offer low-cost local continuing education programs leading to recertification. Chartering started in 2004 and St. Louis was an early adopter, submitting bylaws to ACHE in March of that year creating the Missouri Healthcare Executives Group as a 501 (C) 6 corporation. This was a natural evolution demonstrating that the HEG was now a Missouri statewide chapter. Over the years the Missouri Healthcare Executive Group has been known as the MetroHEG, MHEG, MoHEG, and MOHEG.

In 2016 the MOHEG Board of Directors adopted a Strategic Planning goal of renaming the corporation to take advantage of the positive name recognition of the ACHE, continue evolution as a statewide entity, and eliminate the obsolete HEG concept. A great amount of research was done comparing the names and acronyms of the 77 other chapters and getting input from ACHE staff. The new name, Missouri Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives, concisely describes the entity and the hyphen in the acronym connects Missouri and the ACHE.

NOUN
The sign -, used to join words to indicate that they have a combined meaning or that they are linked in the grammar of a sentence

The change was approved by the Board on November 2, 2016 and announced at the chapter member’s annual meeting on November 3. Public notice was given in my President’s Message, December 2 issue of MOHEG Chapter News announcing the February 1, 2017 effective date. Chapter bylaws were amended by unanimous vote of the MOHEG Board of Directors on January 20, 2017. John R. Ashcroft, Missouri Secretary of State and Deborah J. Bowen, FACHE, President of the ACHE have both approved the new name.

                                          MISSION, VISION, VALUES

The name change is part of a strategic rebranding process that further aligns the state chapter with the national organization. The MO-ACHE Mission Statement is “To advance our members and healthcare leadership excellence. The only difference between MO-ACHE’s mission and ACHE’s mission is that the chapter board chose to use the words “leadership excellence” instead of “management excellence” reflecting the diversity of our members’ work and the fact that ACHE has a “Congress on Leadership.”

MO-ACHE’s Vision Statement is the same as before: “To be recognized as the premier healthcare professional leadership organization in the State of Missouri.

MO-ACHE has adopted ACHE’s identified Values:

• Integrity
• Lifelong Learning
• Leadership
• Diversity and Inclusion

Further implementation of this rebranding project will be part of a process that takes time. You will notice some changes immediately. Your volunteer MO-ACHE Board of Directors and committee and Local Program Council members are grateful to all the ACHE members who have been part of this journey in the past and look forward to serving you in the future.

Please let me know your feedback and comments.

Thank you for supporting the mission of MO-ACHE!

Respectfully,

2016-2017 President, MO-ACHE
