Dear ASB Members,

Our Executive Committee has worked hard throughout the summer to develop yet another exciting meeting venue for ASB 2018!

We will soon launch a new ASB website to better meet the needs of our Association. We have a few important updates to give you in the interim (see below), but once the site is up and running, you will be able to find everything you need (and then some) on the new and improved ASB website.

On behalf of the ASB Executive Committee, thank you for your continuing commitment to our Association. We look forward to seeing you in Myrtle Beach!

Ashley B. Morris
President of ASB

Submit your nominations for elected officers now

We will be electing several new officers in April 2018 as existing terms come to an end. We encourage you to take part in the nomination process, submitting your nominations to Past President Dr. Joey Shaw (joey-shaw@utc.edu). Please note that ASB is dependent on dedicated volunteers willing to commit their time and energy to the efforts of the Executive Committee. These positions require a significant commitment on your part as you help our association thrive and grow. We encourage you to reach out to current EC members if you have any questions regarding the expectations of these offices. We need nominees for the following positions:

  • President-Elect
(a one-year term followed by a two-year term as President and a two-year term as Past President)

Submit your proposals for ASB 2018 symposia, workshops, and field trips

We encourage you to submit proposals for symposia, workshops, and field trips for ASB 2018 using our online forms (see the links below). Given our coastal location in Myrtle Beach and the marine ecology focus of our Plenary Speaker, we are particularly interested in proposals that will highlight issues relevant to coastal / marine systems and climate change, but our program, as always, should reflect the diversity of biological sciences represented by our membership.

Southeastern Biologist (SEB) is changing with the times

As many of you know, ASB has published SEB as the official bulletin of ASB quarterly for many years. In 2011, we shifted from paper copies to online only copies. In 2017, we are moving from a quarterly issue format to a single, annual issue format. While SEB continues to play an important role in the life and communication of our Association, we feel that the membership is more dependent on email and online communication than ever before. Therefore, we will send quarterly e-Newsletters regarding the business of the society.
