St. Mary's Gives $2.5m to Expand West Springs Hospital

St. Mary’s Hospital is contributing $2.5 million to a fund for the expansion of Grand Junction’s psychiatric hospital, doubling the amount now in the fund for construction that could begin next year.

"The contribution to West Springs Hospital, which deals exclusively with mental illness, will prove to be an investment for St. Mary’s", said Brian Davidson, hospital president, who noted that St. Mary’s frequently acts as a holding area for people who would be better treated at a psychiatric hospital.  read more

Heart of the Rockies Improving Orthopedic Care for US Troops
                                               
Heart of the Rockies_LogoRobert Hunter, M.D., Director of the Orthopedic Center of Excellence at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center, is working to expand opportunities for continuing education for military orthopedic surgeons.

As a board member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), Dr. Hunter has been instrumental in developing an annual course designed to provide military orthopedic surgeons with cutting edge, hands-on experience with the latest arthroscopic surgical techniques. read more

USJHSD Granted $500k to Expand Primary Care at Pagosa Springs Medical Center
                                               
Pagosa Springs_LogoThe Upper San Juan Health Service District (USJHSD) recently received a $500k grant to go toward expanding Primary Care at Pagosa Springs Medical Center. The grant was made possible through the Colorado Health Foundation's initiative to increase the number of Coloradans who receive comprehensive primary care.  read more

Mountain Family Health Centers Pursue Integrated Care
                                               
Mountain Family_LogoMountain Family Health Centers, based in Glenwood Springs, is preparing to launch a capital campaign to establish new, larger clinics in Basalt and Edwards and expand services to provide an integrated approach to its patients’ needs.
According to Garry Schalla, the new development director for MFHC, a major focus of the expansion is to address the overall health and wellness of the patient, including dental and oral health needs and behavioral health, “so that we are not just reacting to a disease,” he said.  read more

HomeCare & Hospice of the Valley Awarded $152,600 Grant
                                               
Homecare&Hospice_LogoHomeCare & Hospice of the Valley was recently awarded $152,600 in grant funding from the Colorado Health Foundation for “Advance Care Planning for Colorado’s Western Slope.”

Funding will support the creation of a new community outreach program for people in Garfield, Eagle, and Pitkin Counties, a 6,000 square mile service area. The program will promote person-centered care and shared decision making by engaging and educating local health care professionals and residents in advance care planning. read more 

Colorado Canyons Hospital & Medical Center Doctor First to Perform New Chronic Pain Procedure in Colorado

For one patient suffering from chronic pain who required crutches to walk for two years, a new procedure gave him his life and his freedom back. Kenneth C. Lewis, MD of Western Rockies Interventional Pain Specialists performed this procedure at Colorado Canyons Hospital and Medical Center's Outpatient Procedure Center of Family Health West.  He is the first physician in Colorado to utilize a new pain management system that had this patient walking unaided and unencumbered by crutches shortly after his procedure.  read more
                                               
Community Hospital Meets Fundraising Goal 
The 2015 St. Baldrick’s/Community Hospital Head-Shaving Fundraiser took place on Saturday, June 25.  The organizers of the Event and the St. Baldrick’s Foundation are very pleased to announce that the Foundation has confirmed that the $75,000 fundraising goal for the event has now been exceeded and donations continue to add to the total amount it has raised to fund childhood cancer research.  read more
