A Message from the Chapter President, Mike Wescott

Dear esteemed colleagues,
It is nearly the end of February and I can see spring just around the corner. But I fear that winter isn’t leaving so easily. ARGH!
I have just a couple of updates for you that may be of interest.
First, a decision was made by the representatives of the 6 AFP Chapters in our region to not hold the Mid America Conference (often called MAC) in 2020. The Chapter that was scheduled to host is not able to do so. But no worries, MAC will return in 2021 as the Kansas City Chapter has agreed to host.

We have had two great professional development sessions thus far this year and I know that there are some tremendous plans in the making for the balance of the year. Thanks to our presenters and hosts for each of these events. Your early registration for the events is always appreciated, but if for some reason you find that the date snuck up on you and you didn’t register, please don’t hesitate to contact Bridget Mersmann, our chapter administrator, to make a reservation on the day before or even day of the event. We might not be always able to accommodate a lunch for you, but typically even that can be handled. Bridget can be reached at afpwichitachapter@gmail.com.
Our rural initiative will be the topic of our March board meeting. If you have any ideas of how we might better reach out to our colleagues outside Wichita, please contact me or any member of the board with your ideas.

RFP for funds for those interested in assisting with refugee resettlement
The Kansas Office for Refugees is looking to fund a Wichita-area non-profit, community-based organization, or faith-based organization to implement a mentoring project for older, out-of-school refugee youth. The grant will be for up to $50,000 annually. Applications are due by April, 17. Please click here for further information.
