I am writing to provide you with some important reminders and conference updates for the upcoming ASB 2018 meeting in Myrtle Beach, SC (28-31 March).
We have now launched a new ASB website to better meet the needs of our Association. Please let us know what you like, or what you would like to see added, to this great resource.

Dr. Jane Lubchenco - Plenary Speaker for 2018
|
|
 We are excited to announce that renowned marine ecologist Dr. Jane Lubchenco will be our Plenary Speaker in Myrtle Beach. Dr. Lubchenco served as Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and she served as a member of President Barack Obama’s Science Team (2009-2013). ASB 2018 will begin on Wednesday, 28 March, with a pre-plenary reception at 6PM, followed by the plenary at 7PM. There will be a brief Q&A session immediately following the plenary, and a subsequent post-plenary reception.

ASB 2018 Thursday Night Social on the beach
Our highly anticipated Thursday Night Social event will be held at Riptydz Oceanfront Grille. We have contracted the entire three-level restaurant, located directly on the beach, exclusively for ASB from 6PM to 10PM! Make sure you get your tickets when you register for the annual meeting online!

We have partnered with a new abstract submission company for the upcoming annual meeting in an effort to improve the enduser experience. Note that abstract submission AND online registration will launch on Wednesday, 5 December 2017.

We will be electing several new officers in April 2018 as existing terms come to an end. We encourage you to take part in the nomination process, submitting your nominations to Past President Dr. Joey Shaw (joey-shaw@utc.edu). Please note that ASB is dependent on dedicated volunteers willing to commit their time and energy to the efforts of the Executive Committee. These positions require a significant commitment on your part as you help our association thrive and grow. We encourage you to reach out to current EC members if you have any questions regarding the expectations of these offices. We need nominees for the following positions:
