Dear Members and Friends

Singapore’s National Day on 9 August this year will be celebrated differently because of the pandemic. It does not mean we have any less reason to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Singapore’s independence.

Our multi-culturalism is alive and well. Our democracy and society are evolving positively without causing instability or weakening good governance. No doubt, we are entering a very testing time economically but we have the right collective attitudes, capabilities, drive, and potential to see us through.

The fatality rate from Covid-19 in Singapore is very low by any standards thanks to the outstanding work of our health care workers and all frontline staff. Thanks, too, to the majority of people continuing to be socially responsible.

The heroes of the year are undoubtedly our healthcare and all frontline staff and all essential workers who enable our lives. Pause a while this National Day to salute them. Majulah Singapura!

Best regards
