AAMC is closely monitoring the potential impact of Hurricane Irma. Taking a number of factors into consideration, including the safety and well-being of our constituents, we have canceled the Cancelled 2017 GREAT Group and Postdoctorate Leaders Section Annual Professional Development Meeting. 2017 GREAT Group and Postdoctorate Leaders Section Annual Professional Development Meeting

We invite graduate deans, postdoctoral program leaders, MD-PhD program directors, research deans and all those with an interest in advancing biomedical research training to join us for this exciting meeting focused on pressing issues in biomedical research training and workforce.

Why should you attend?
Network with colleagues, learn innovative strategies and ideas, take home new skills and tools to implement at your institution.  Meeting sessions have been organized around learning objectives and principles, to encourage and improve the ability of leaders in research training to bring useful information back to their campuses.

What will be discussed?
This year’s meeting focuses on preparing yourself, colleagues, learners, and your institution to succeed in a research training environment that is more diverse and inclusive, while also adapting to changing accountability metrics and performance measures.

In plenary sessions meeting attendees will discuss:

  • Communicating the importance of biomedical research

  • The impact of new administration and recent policies on the academic medical community

  • Transforming conflict into collaboration

  • Building a resilient and caring training community

Dr. Ross McKinney, AAMC’s Chief Scientific Officer will lead the Town Hall discussion.

Creative concurrent sessions will include solution-focused content to give attendees helpful takeaways and tools for use at your own institutions. These sessions will focus on outcomes: what works, what doesn’t, and how we can implement new approaches in our programs.

There will be opportunities to present and learn from your colleagues at the innovative curriculum session and poster reception (please check "Call for Proposals" tab for more detailed information about abstract submission.

The winners of the 2017 AAMC Award for Innovations in Research Education will be announced at the meeting.

Participate as a mentor
The meeting will be followed by workshops and a mentoring session for high school and college students interested in careers in biomedical research on the afternoon of Saturday, September 9.  Sign-up to participate as a mentor when you register for the meeting.

The NIH BEST Consortium will hold a BEST Practices Workshop September 6-7, 2017 in conjunction with the AAMC GREAT Group & Postdoctoral Leaders Professional Development Meeting, and sponsored in part by the Burroughs Wellcome Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.

Who Can Attend

To register for and attend an AAMC meeting, you must be affiliated with an AAMC member institution, a non-profit medical education or professional organization, or a college or university. Please note that commercial representatives are not permitted to register for the meeting.
