ASB
The Association of Southeastern Biologists (ASB) held its first meeting in Athens, GA, in 1937, and has met every year since with the exception of 1943, 1944, and 1945 due to WWII. Our purpose is to promote research and education in the biological sciences by providing a student-friendly, networking environment through our annual meetings. Our affiliates include the Southern Appalachian Botanical Society (SABS), the Southeastern Section of the Ecological Society of America (SE ESA), the Southeastern Section of the Botanical Society of America (SE BSA), and the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT).
The Enrichment fund supports Awards, Initiatives and Annual Meeting.
Spring Wild Flower Pilgrimage
The Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage is a 69-year old annual event in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park featuring professionally-guided walks, exhibits, and other learning opportunities to explore the region's rich natural and cultural resources. More than 850 pilgrims from more than 32 states and several countries joined us in 2018. Our programs included fungi, ferns, wildflowers, trees and shrubs, medicinal plants, insects (terrestrial and aquatic), salamanders and snakes, birds, mammals (bats to bears), journaling, art and photography, and park history.
Donations help reduce the cost to children, high
school and college students. Over the past few years their numbers have
averaged 100. Their exposure to wilderness now can be the seed for the
guardians of the future. Any amount is appreciated and is tax deductible.
