Wendell Brooks is corporate vice president and president of mergers and acquisitions at Intel Corporation. Ger Brophy is CTO for the GE Healthcare Life Science business, a $4.0 billion molecular medicine business that provides a broad range of industry-leading technologies and services for drug discovery, pre-clinical and clinical development and biopharmaceutical manufacturing, as well as molecular tools for therapy selection and treatment monitoring in patient care. Bill Gross founded Idealab in March 1996 and serves as the company's Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Gross founded Idealab to create and build successful businesses that capitalize on innovations in areas with significant growth opportunities, including the Internet. A lifelong entrepreneur, Mr. Gross started several companies prior to Idealab. In high school, he founded Solar Devices, a firm that sold plans and kits for solar energy products. In college at the California Institute of Technology, he patented a new loudspeaker design and formed GNP Loudspeakers, Inc. After graduating from college, Mr. Gross and his brother Larry started GNP Development, Inc., which made a natural language product for Lotus 1-2-3 called HAL. Prior to joining SVB, Ms. Isacke was EVP New Business Ventures at Telefónica Digital where she identified investment opportunities in Silicon Valley, Israel and Europe with potential to accelerate Telefónica’s business. Ms. Isacke also drove an international Global Partner team to deliver unique partnerships and Direct-to-Bill opportunities for Telefónica across 25 operating businesses in Europe and Latin America. Ms. Isacke joined Telefónica in 2006 initially as Head of Enterprise Sales in the UK and then leading the acquisition of Jajah in Mountain View. She set up and grew the office in Silicon Valley and led the acquisition of San Francisco based TokBox, as well as several investments on behalf of Telefónica including Boku, Everything.me and Box and key partnerships including Evernote, Pinterest and Rhapsody. Ms. Isacke started her career at Xerox, rising to be one of the first female members of the UK Board. She then spent four years getting a taste of what life is like in an early stage company, working in a venture capital-backed start-up that went on to achieve a successful exit. Born in the UK, Ms. Isacke has lived in Italy, Israel and now lives in Los Gatos, CA, with her husband and family.
Dr. Alicia Jackson is currently CTO and Co-Founder of Drawbridge Health, a new company backed by GE Ventures and GE Healthcare, focused on creating a new sample acquisition and stabilization platform to enable the broad access, cost-effective, accurate, and actionable information necessary to pave the way for truly individualized healthcare. Dr. Jackson launched and served as the Deputy Director of the Biological Technologies Office at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Pentagon’s principal engine for disruptive innovation. Previously at DARPA, Dr. Jackson created and managed DARPA’s synthetic biology portfolio as well as programs in transient electronics. Earlier in her career, Dr. Jackson served as Professional Staff for energy technology policy for the Chairman of the U.S. Senate Energy Committee. She has a long standing involvement and expertise in technology policy, serving as an Energy Scholar at Georgetown, a Fellow at the National Academies of Science, and co-establishing the Science Policy Initiative at MIT. Dr. Jackson received both her undergraduate and Doctorate degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT.
Rimas Kapeskas manages the UPS Strategic Enterprise Fund (SEF), the private equity strategic investment and corporate venture capital arm of UPS (NYSE: UPS). The fund is globally focused on developing critical partnerships and acquiring knowledge returns from its investments in technology companies and emerging market spaces. Established in 1997, the SEF is an important business development tool that enables exploration of emerging markets and technologies that enhance the evolving business models at UPS. Rimas oversees all operations of the fund, including sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities, facilitating the ongoing relationship between UPS and the venture capital community and portfolio companies, and management of the fund staff. Since taking over the SEF, Rimas has successfully expanded the fund’s focus from U.S.-only to a global reach and also incorporated a process for direct strategic engagement with startup companies. Prior to taking over responsibility for venture activities, Rimas spent many years leading UPS R&D efforts and has also been involved in diverse roles in marketing, sales, planning and integration of international acquisitions and related IT. He holds a bachelor’s of science degree from the University of Connecticut and a master’s degree in business administration from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University. Rimas resides in Dunwoody, Georgia, with his wife, Carla, and two children, Luka and Viktoria.
Nagraj Kashyap is a senior vice president of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. In this role, Kashyap is the global head of the Qualcomm Ventures group and oversees Qualcomm’s $1 billion strategic venture investment portfolio of over 140 investments. Kashyap built up Qualcomm Ventures from a US/China focused team of three in 2003 to a global leader in corporate venture capital with 25 investment professionals and direct investments in US, China, India, Brazil, Europe, Israel, Korea and Australia. Kashyap pioneered the first corporate VC seed investment program with the Qualcomm Ventures early stage fund. In addition, he started QPrize™ (www.qprize.com), the highly successful global business plan competition for early stage companies and launched the Qualcomm Robotics Accelerator (qualcommaccelerator.com). Under Kashyap’s leadership, the group has experienced significant strategic and financial success with early investments in companies such as Xiaomi and Matterport, as well as strong investment exits including Fitbit (IPO - FIT); Invensense (IPO: INVN); Thundersoft (IPO - SZSE:300496); and Waze (acquired by Google). The group has evolved and considerably expanded the investment scope from mobile and wireless to include investments in Frontier technologies like drones and robotics, AR/VR and space where the application of mobile technologies is advancing the pace of innovation. Prior to PRTM, Kashyap was a senior product marketing manager at Motorola. He has also held engineering positions at 3Com/US Robotics and Nortel. Rick leads the partnerships team at Google Ventures, where he connects the largest companies in the world to GV’s portfolio. Rick was previously a product manager at Google where he led product initiatives on Blogger, Google+, and YouTube. Rick’s earlier professional experience includes leadership roles at several software and Internet startups. He was an early employee at FeedBurner, where he ran the publisher services team until Google acquired the company in 2007. Rick received dual degrees from Lafayette College, and while a student at the University of Richmond School of Law, he founded the Richmond Journal of Law & Technology, the world’s first student-edited law journal to publish exclusively online. Outside of his love of technology, Rick is also a political junkie. He has lent technology advice to three U.S. Presidential campaigns, ran the campaign blog for President Barack Obama in his 2004 Senate race, and ran product strategy for and managed Google’s presence at the Democratic National Convention in 2008.
Diomedes Kastanis Head of Technology for Business Unit Support Systems, leads Ericsson’s long-term technology vision and innovation across Media, OSS, BSS and M-commerce. Diomedes is also contributing towards the university collaboration, industry thought leadership and advanced technology incubations. He also facilitates the technical community within Ericsson BUSS. Prior to this role, Diomedes held the role of Researcher in the institute of Computer Science of Crete, Head of Enterprise Architecture BSS/OSS for Middle East and Africa and lately the Global Head of Product Line Content Delivery. Moreover, Diomedes holds an advisory role in multiple forums as well as the technology innovation forum for Greece. Diomedes has played a crucial role in the evolution of Ericsson’s Media Delivery and Identity specifically for Media with a vision towards a network society. Diomedes is part of the executive team in Ericsson BUSS and holds a number of scientific publication and patents. Deborah Kilpatrick, PhD is the CEO of Evidation Health, a digital health company backed by GE Ventures, Asset Management Ventures, and Rock Health. Evidation Health quantifies digital health impact via predictive analytics and machine learning using medical, behavioral and contextual information at the patient-consumer level. Prior to her role at Evidation Health, Deborah was the Chief Commercial Officer of genomic diagnostics company CardioDx, whose Corus CAD product was named in the Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Awards, TIME Magazine's Top 10 Medical Breakthroughs, and the Edison Awards. Earlier in her career, Deborah held multiple leadership roles at Guidant Corporation, including Research Fellow, Director of R&D, and Director of New Ventures in the Vascular Intervention Division. She serves on the Georgia Tech Advisory Board, chairs the Georgia Tech College of Engineering Advisory Board, and is a Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering. Kay Koplovitz is founder and former Chairman & CEO of USA Networks, including USA Network, Sy-Fy Channel and USA Networks International, today a multi-billion dollar television company. Ms. Koplovitz ran the company for 21 years before stepping down in 1998, when it was sold for 4.5 billion dollars. She is co-founder of Springboard Enterprises, an accelerator and community that has fostered the investment of more than $6.6 Billion in women-led firms, and in 2015 launched the Springboard Fund to invest in Springboard portfolio companies. Scott Lenet is a founder and president of Touchdown Ventures, a firm that works with leading corporations to establish and manage their corporate venture capital investing activities. Prior to starting Touchdown Ventures, Scott founded DFJ Frontier, a media-focused seed and early stage venture capital firm. As a managing partner, Scott leads fund management, fundraising and portfolio management for Frontier. Scott began his venture capital career in 1992 with Geocapital Partners, then gained operating experience in product marketing at Trilogy Software and as the founder and CEO of SmartFrog.com, acquired by Cybergold in 1999. Several of Scott's successful investments include public companies Netcom and Logic Works, MaxPreps (sold to CBS), and AudioMicro (sold in a private transaction). Wendy Lung is Director of Corporate Development and Partner in IBM’s Venture Capital Group. Her mission is to seek out external innovation for IBM through worldwide relationships with VCs and their portfolio companies. Susan Lyne is President of BBG Ventures, a new venture fund for women-led tech start-ups. The fund is focused on consumer internet businesses – services, content, commerce – based on the belief that there is a huge opportunity in backing smart entrepreneurs who reflect and understand the consumers driving the fastest-growing areas of the internet. Before launching the BBG Fund, Susan was most recently CEO of the AOL Brand Group where she oversaw AOL’s unique content brands including AOL.com, TechCrunch, Engadget, StyleList, Moviefone, and MapQuest. From 2008-2013 Susan was CEO and then Chairman of Gilt Groupe, the innovative ecommerce company that pioneered flash sales in the United States. From 1996 to 2004, Ms. Lyne held various positions at the Walt Disney Company and ABC, including EVP of Movies and Miniseries and later President of ABC Entertainment where she was responsible for the network’s primetime schedule, overseeing the development of shows including Desperate Housewives, Lost, and Grey’s Anatomy. Before joining Disney she was Managing Editor of New Times and The Village Voice and created and launched Premiere Magazine, serving as Editor-in-Chief and Publication Director. Susan Lyne is Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of Gilt.com and a director of Starz LLC. James Mawson was editor of Private Equity News, part of Dow Jones and The Wall Street Journal in London, for nearly four years until May, 2010 when he launched Global Corporate Venturing as an independent title from the publishing company Mawsonia. This was followed by the launch of the second publication, Global University Venturing, in January 2012 to help students and faculty and academia more broadly launch or develop their entrepreneurial businesses and work with external peers. The company's third title, Global Government Venturing, was launched in May 2014. As well as editing Private Equity News, Mr. Mawson coordinated leveraged buyout and venture capital coverage for use by other titles in the Dow Jones and News Corporation group, has acted as a spokesman on BBC radio and television and chaired awards and conferences for a host of media groups, including the BVCA awards, an event for more than 1,000 people in October, 2009.

Most recently, Jeff was Senior Vice President of corporate strategy, M&A, and business development where he worked with Allstate’s senior leadership team and board to define future strategy and execute strategic transactions. Prior leadership roles at Allstate include finance and planning, marketing, and serving on the boards and management teams of early stage Allstate business ventures. In addition to his Allstate experience, Jeff has venture and start-up company experience including running strategy, product development and marketing for Magnify, an advanced data mining and predictive analytics company acquired by Choicepoint/LexisNexis. Dominique Mégret is head of Swisscom Ventures, which he started in 2007. He joined Swisscom, the Swiss telecommunications and IT group, as head of the Group Strategy unit in 2002. Previously, Mr. Mégret was an entrepreneur in the United Kingdom, strategy consultant in the European telecom industry and country manager for an IT company in Germany. He currently serves on the boards of Transmedia SA, g2e SA, Mona Lisa Capital AG as director as well as Quantenna Inc (observer), ASSIA Inc., Geosatis and Adello (advisor). He is also co-chairman of the IBF Corporate Venturing Conference in California. Mr. Mégret holds an MBA from Insead.
Greg is a senior investment manager for DSM Venturing with responsibility for biotech, health and wellness, nutrition, Ag Tech and Food Tech investments in North America. He joined DSM in 2011. Prior to joining DSM Greg was CEO of several start-up and public companies including KIP Biotech, Avrio Biopharmaceuticals, and Girindus America Inc. He has held a variety of senior executive positions in operations, program management, engineering and business development at Altergy Fuel Cell Systems, Aerojet Pharmaceutical Fine Chemicals and Aerojet Rocket Propulsion Company. As senior director of the product and innovation team, Jennifer Micek directs U.S. Cellular’s uniquely customer-focused services a critical element in the company’s successful drive to make "the ideal customer experience" its calling card and look at new areas that the business can innovate and grow new revenue streams. In this role, Micek leads teams in the areas of innovation, product strategy and portfolio management, product launch and development, product management and marketing, business development, corporate venture and vendor management. She has led the efforts on building out US Cellular’s Corporate Venture efforts and Innovation team. Micek’s career with U.S. Cellular began 8 years ago in product strategy. Since then, she has held positions of increasing responsibility, including senior director product, services and devices and director of product development and strategy. Prior to USCC, Jennifer was at Motorola in a variety of roles in the handset business where she worked with key partners, on developing software applications, handsets and co-developed product concepts with the intent of creating a unique set of experiences for the user in the areas of social networking, imaging, and productivity. Before this, she held a variety of finance roles at Motorola’s corporate headquarters and at incubator businesses in the U.S. and in China. Micek is a native of the Chicago area and holds a MBA in Marketing, Strategy and Entrepreneurship from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and a B.S. in Finance and International Studies from Miami University and is a CPA. She is on the governing board of Girls on the Run Chicago and chairs US Cellular’s Women’s Affinity Network Group. She lives in Park Ridge, Ill, with her husband and three children.
Paul Morris advises global corporations on setting up new Corporate Venture Capital units and reviewing or restructuring existing ones. He works with VC funds that seek closer interactions with corporates, and helps early and growth stage companies that are looking to engage with corporate partners. Morris currently advises the UK government on increasing inward VC investment into high-growth potential UK companies. He is primarily responsible for leading efforts to introduce global CVCs and VC funds to qualified UK early-stage and growth-stage companies. Paul Morris is a Corporate Venture Capital veteran. He set up the CVC business of Dow Chemical in Europe in 1996 and ran this for 16 years. During this period he invested over $100M in 110 transactions in more than 50 different entities across ICT, Life sciences, and Cleantech. This comprised both direct investments and LP positions in VC funds. He has participated in over 300 board meetings of investee companies, including Oxford Immunotec, Plastic Logic, Fillfactory and Ness. He interacted frequently and closely with many other CVC leaders during this time, and gained an intimate understanding of the opportunities and challenges associated with establishing strategic relationships between young entrepreneurial companies and large corporations. Morris has spoken on CVC at international conferences and on CNBC television, and has had articles published in leading CVC publications. He has run workshops at industry conferences and initiated efforts to establish a CVC Working Group within the European Venture Capital Association. He is an active member of the British Venture Capital Association CVC working group; and a faculty member of the GCV Academy, delivering Masters-level training courses to Corporate VCs in Europe, Asia and the US. Morris currently holds board positions in funds and companies spanning public and private markets in several countries across Europe and the Middle East. During a 28-year career with Dow Chemical Morris held a wide range of senior commercial management, people management and business development roles. He has captained rugby and cricket sides at school, college and club levels and is a qualified ski instructor. Paul Morris, a UK national, is based in Zurich, Switzerland. He speaks German, and speaks French fluently. Morris holds a First Class Honours degree in Textiles, French and Marketing from the University of Huddersfield.
Karl Mundorff co-leads the Oregon State University Advantage Accelerator and is on the faculty of the College of Business Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship. His recent past includes the position of Director of Research Programs for Oregon BEST, a State Signature Research Center focused on advancing the Cleantech cluster. As Director of Research Programs he worked with University and National Lab researchers to advance technology to market. He helped secure an Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership designation from the Economic Development Administration, which created an opportunity for the Pacific Northwest Manufacturing Partnership to compete for more than $1billion in new federal agency grant opportunities. Karl also served as President and CEO of BioReaction Industries which developed and commercialized an air pollution control technology utilizing microbes to digest industrial process exhaust. Growing the company from prototype to commercialization created significant IP, sales and license agreements across three continents along with the development of customer engagements with Fortune 500 companies such as Toyota, Weyerhaeuser and 3M. He was also part of the management team at Gardenburger taking the company through a successful IPO. Karl has also been an Industry Mentor for two National Science Foundation’s Innovation Corps teams, one of which earned the top mark out of 23 teams from around the country. He has been a judge and mentor for programs such as the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Cleantech Open, the University of Oregon Venture Quest and its Technology Entrepreneurship Program. He helped organize and run Portland State University, Wells Fargo funded Cleantech Challenge. For ten years, he was a part-time instructor at Concordia teaching Global Business, Innovation and Starting New Ventures at the graduate and undergraduate level. He also designed and taught Innovation and Business Model Generation in Concordia's MBA program and has taught Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Portland State’s Masters in International Management program. Girish Nadkarni is President of ABB Technology Ventures (ATV), the corporate venture arm of ABB. Girish started ATV in 2009 and it has invested over $165 MM in 18 investments across the globe. His business career spans Prudential where he was responsible for creating the innovative Pru-Shelf financing facility which at the end of 2014 had 805 customers with a portfolio value of $82 Billion, GE Capital and GE where he worked for Jack Welch on strategy and business development, and United Healthcare as chief operations officer. He has also had a stint as an entrepreneur when he founded and ran vSimplify, a VC funded startup which was a pioneer in the cloud based (ASP) business services area with a SaaS revenue model. Girish earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Bombay where he was a gold medalist, his masters of law degree from the University of Virginia which he attended as a DuPont Fellow, and an MBA from Harvard where he was designated a Baker Scholar. Mark is an experienced technologist, executive, founder, and private equity investor. He is founder/Managing Director of West Capital Advisors, a corporate innovation and venture investment advisory firm. Most recently, he served as a Managing Director in Draper Triangle Ventures, an early stage venture fund. Mark maintains a relationship with Draper Triangle in the role of Venture Partner. Mark has been involved in many entrepreneurial ventures. He founded Synchrony Communications in 1997 raising $38 million in funding from leading VCs, including Charles River Ventures, APAX Partners and GE Equity. He grew the company to a size of more than 130 employees in four cities serving over 80 customers, including Cincinnati Bell, Bank of America, and Proctor & Gamble. In prior years Mark served in management roles with a series of venture backed Silicon Valley companies, including Gain Technology (sold to Sybase), Siebel Systems (IPO), and Genesys Telecommunications (IPO). After graduate school he worked in management consulting with Theodore Barry & Associates (Los Angeles). Mark began his career as a software engineer with Cincom Systems (Cincinnati). Bipin Sahni is a senior vice president in Wells Fargo’s newly formed Innovation Group, a companywide organization that provides value-added services, leverages emerging technologies, and delivers customer-inspired technologies, products, and services. Bipin is also co-lead for the Wells Fargo Startup Accelerator. Prior to his current role, Bipin led Research & Development and Innovation in the Wholesale Services Group and led the architecture and development teams in Wells Fargo Wholesale Banking on mobile, portal, and front-end technologies. He managed the core authentication and authorization systems in the Wholesale Technology Group. He also led the Data Migration Delivery (DMD) team, which was responsible for all data conversion programs of Wachovia customers migrating to the Commercial Electronic O ce® (CEO)® portal after the Wells Fargo-Wachovia merger. Ralf Schnell is responsible for the worldwide activities of Siemens Venture Capital (SVC) with offices in Europe, USA and Asia. The business scope of SVC currently covers Siemens’ corporate venture capital program, a private equity advisory mandate for managing Siemens’ Pension Trust Private Equity portfolio and management of the VC fund-of-funds ‘Siemens Global Innovation Partners’ also for further European institutional investors. Prior to joining Siemens Venture Capital as CEO in 2005, Mr. Schnell built up Infineon Technologies’ corporate venture capital activities from 1998 and was managing director of Infineon Ventures GmbH. Prior to joining Infineon Technologies in 1998, Mr. Schnell worked with Siemens AG for 11 years where he held various positions in innovation management, microelectronics and software development and corporate research. Mr. Schnell obtained his diploma degree and PhD in Physics.
Reese Schroeder is Managing Director of Motorola Solutions Venture Capital. He has been in this role since January, 2004. In this position, he is responsible for overall management of Motorola Solutions’ corporate venture capital program. Reese joined Motorola, Inc. in 1989. Prior to his current position, Reese was a Director in Motorola’s Corporate Development and Strategic Transactions Group responsible for a wide variety of M&A activity. During his tenure with Motorola, he has served in various capacities in the Networks Business Unit, including Senior Manager of the Contracts Department, Commercial Strategies Manager for the International Marketing Organization, Director of Operations for the Asia Pacific business and Director of Business Development. Prior to joining Motorola, Reese was Vice President of Sales and Administration for a Midwest-based manufacturer of chemical transportation containers. Thomas M. Sipp is a Managing Director of Credit Suisse in the Private Banking & Wealth Management division, based in New York. He is Chief Operating Officer for the Private Banking & Wealth Management division, and a member of the Private Banking & Wealth Management Management Committees. Prior to his current role, Mr. Sipp was the COO for Private Banking & Wealth Management Products, and previously the COO And Chief Financial Officer for Credit Suisse’s Asset Management division. Mr. Sipp joined Credit Suisse in September 2009 from Pyramis Global Advisors, a unit of Fidelity Investments that manages assets for institutional clients, where he was the Head of Investment Operations. In that role, Mr. Sipp was responsible for overseeing all investment operational activities, including trading, risk management and derivatives and product development. Prior to that, he spent eight years with the Gartmore Group – the first six as their Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Sipp was a founding principal of Gartmore Global Investments in 1998. Ilya A. Strebulaev is a tenured Professor of Finance at the Graduate School of Business, Stanford University, and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. He graduated from the London Business School with a doctorate in Finance. He also holds degrees from Lomonosov Moscow State University (B.Sc. Economics) and the New Economic School, Moscow (M.A. Economics). Ilya is an expert in financial decision-making, venture capital, innovation, corporate finance, and credit risk. His work has been published in major academic journals. Nick Sturiale joined Ignition in 2013, as a managing partner and oversees the Palo Alto office. Joseph M. Taylor serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Panasonic Corporation of North America, the principal North American subsidiary of Panasonic Corporation and the hub –of Panasonic’s U.S. branding, marketing, sales, service and R&D operations. The company develops solutions for consumer, workplace and industrial purposes primarily for the U.S. and Canada. Under Mr. Taylor’s leadership, Panasonic Corporation of North America, which was based on a 50-acre corporate campus in Secaucus, NJ, moved its headquarters operations to a newly constructed office tower in Newark, NJ in July 2013 as part of its effort to transform itself into an innovation leader in green business. The company’s new home offers employees easy access to a major regional mass transit hub and incorporates energy-savings, water-savings and accessibility throughout its design. It is the first new office tower in Newark to achieve both LEED Platinum and LEED Gold certifications. In addition to his role in leading Panasonic’s North American operations, Mr. Taylor also serves as a Managing Executive Officer of parent company Osaka, Japan-based Panasonic Corporation. In this role, Mr. Taylor formulates and executes Panasonic’s global business strategy. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Taylor, a 31-year Panasonic veteran, served as the company’s Chief Operating Officer from 2007 and before that was President and Chief Operating Officer of Panasonic Industrial Company, as well as Vice President and Member of the Board of Panasonic Corporation of North America. Preceding his employment at Panasonic, Mr. Taylor worked at Worthington Compressors and Copeland Compressors. Mr. Taylor has represented Panasonic in numerous Board and technical educational initiatives, including programs with New Jersey’s Liberty Science Center, the Herrick Laboratories of Purdue University, NJIT and Rutgers University. He has been a Member of the Board of the National Association of Manufacturers, Chairman of the Board for the Electronic Manufacturers Recycling Company, and serves on the board of New Jersey Performing Arts Center and several Panasonic companies. In June 2014, he was appointed to the Board of Trustees of New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), New Jersey’s leading technology university. Mr. Taylor earned his undergraduate degree from LaSalle College (Philadelphia, PA). He also holds a doctorate in engineering honoris causa from New Jersey Institute of Technology, New Jersey’s leading technology university.
Erik P.M. Vermeulen is Senior Counsel Corporate of Philips (a technology company) in the Netherlands. He serves as a Vice President at the legal department where he advises on corporate governance, corporate venturing activities, international joint ventures and mergers and acquisitions. He has worked on numerous corporate venture capital and spin-out transactions. Philips’ anchor investment in a transatlantic venture capital fund through which it complements its long-term open innovation strategy in the healthcare sector is an illustrative example. Erik is also Professor of Business and Financial Law at Tilburg University and Tilburg Law and Economics Center (TILEC). Much of his current research focuses on the life cycle of a company - from idea to fully mature company, the sources of capital available at each stage of a company’s development, and the role of corporate governance in encouraging innovation and maintaining an entrepreneurial spirit across a company’s life cycle. Furthermore, his research focuses on financial markets, innovation policies and start-up ecosystems. He is a frequent speaker on these topics and has published extensively in top journals and books. As a member of PwC's New Entrant’s practice, Brian advises senior executives of traditional medical device and diagnostics companies on the “New Health Economy” and senior executives at non-traditional healthcare companies seeking to enter and transform access to and adherence to care. He has nearly twenty years of investment, business development and strategy expertise within health care. Prior to joining PwC, Brian served as an executive for two health care firms, including one early stage company where he quadrupled revenues in three years, leading to a sale of the company returning 10x invested capital. Wolcott won Teacher of the Year from Kellogg’s EMBA program in 2013 and 2014. He has served on the advisory boards of Nordic Innovation for the Nordic Council, Oslo, Norway; the Kraft Foods Global Technology Council (GTC); and GE’s Innovation Accelerator. Wolcott is also a partner with Clareo, a growth strategy consultancy serving senior executives at global corporations such as Exelon, Castrol, Johnson Controls, Baker Hughes and others. His book with Dr. Michael Lippitz, Grow From Within: Mastering Corporate Entrepreneurship and Innovation (McGraw-Hill, 2010) shares a decade of research and has been published in Chinese and Japanese. Wolcott’s work has appeared in MIT Sloan Management Review, strategy+business, The Wall Street Journal, Advertising Age, Business Week, The Financial Times (European Edition), The New York Times and numerous overseas publications. He is a frequent speaker at events worldwide. In 2003, Wolcott founded the Kellogg Innovation Network (KIN), a network of senior executives dedicated to driving sustainable innovation. The KIN’s annual summit, KIN Global, takes place in late spring and includes leaders from around the world who collaborate around issues of significance for their organizations and for humanity (www.kinglobal.org). Wolcott is also an active angel investor in enterprises such as crowd funding leader IndieGogo (www.indiegogo.com), student loan innovator Lumni (www.lumni.net), and healthcare data and analytics providers SA Ignite (www.saignite.com) and ClearCare Online (www.clearcareonline.com). Wolcott received a BA, European and Chinese History; and an MS and Ph.D., Industrial Engineering & Management Science, Northwestern University.
Mr. Young has over 27 years of professional experience with the past 10 years at Caterpillar. He has held multiple positions related to corporate strategy, business development, and M&A with a focus of developing strategies to significantly grow the portfolio, including his current position leading Caterpillar Ventures. Prior to his current position, Michael led Caterpillar’s Mergers and Acquisition actives across Asia Pacific, including acquisitions, joint ventures, and divestitures. During his six years in Beijing, Caterpillar closed more than a dozen transactions, mainly focused on joint venture activities in China. Prior to joining Caterpillar in 2005, Michael was at Dell Computer for 6 years, including serving as the CFO for the China / Hong Kong business when it began operations in Xiamen China in 1998, and later leading their corporate private equity operations in Asia, “Dell Ventures”, based out of Singapore. Before Dell, Michael held several accounting positions for Ethyl Corporation, including plant controller, divisional accounting manager, and international accounting manager.
Nick Zaharias is the Managing Director at SignalFire responsible for competitive intelligence advisory services. Prior to Signalfire, he spent 13 years operating Field Check Group LLC, where he built a leading advisory firm focused on enterprise software and consumer internet industry. His clients included a dozen of the most successful hedge funds & mutual funds in North America with assets under management of over $60B. Prior to Field Check Group, Nick was the lead analyst for enterprise technology at Off The Record/OTA where he managed a 20 person technology research group. Prior to that, Nick worked in a variety of internet and enterprise technology sales and business development roles, including several years as an early employee at Netscape beginning in 1994.
Tim has over twenty years’ experience helping companies of various types and sizes implement and optimize their financial, operational, and data management systems. In addition to his experience with the Microsoft Dynamics financial suite of products, he has done extensive development using the Microsoft SQL Server suite of products and many open source counterparts.
Mr. Zhang is Director of Ping An Ventures. He is heading the healthcare investment and overseas investment in the VC arm of Ping An Insurance Group. Ping An Insurance (Group) is an integrated financial services group with three core businesses of insurance, banking and investment. Ping An is ranked No.96 in Fortune’s Global 500 ranking, and No.1 among China’s non-State owned enterprises. Before Ping An Ventures, Mr. Zhang is a consultant of McKinsey, serving healthcare and financial institutions. He also had several year experiences with Philips Healthcare in the Netherlands. Mr. Zhang obtained his MBA degree in INSEAD, Master degree in Information Systems in Technical University of Eindhoven, and Bachelor degree in Computer Science from North China Electric Power University.
