      Deep Dive A: Innovate Oklahoma
      Holiday Ballroom 1, 2nd Floor
      Citizens, government and technology collide to solve state government challenges by finding innovative ways to leverage technology and support the tech startup sector in our state. Anyone can issue a challenge to be solved with technology and Oklahoma’s technologists and entrepreneurs respond. Through partnerships with OCAST, i2E and OMES these great ideas can be turned into winning new startup companies that have the ability to reshape how state government works while growing new businesses that provide high tech jobs.

      Deep Dive B: Michigan CISO as a Service Program
      Holiday Ballroom 2, 2nd Floor
      Through Michigan’s CISO-as-a-Service program, the state is partnering with local governments to lend expertise to small jurisdictions that don’t have the resources for a full-time security officer but are still exposed to the sophisticated risks. Dave DeVries, State CIO and Andy Brush (Washtenaw County) co-lead this session to provide perspectives from both sides of the partnership.

      Deep Dive C: North Carolina Government Data Analytics Center

      The vision for the North Carolina Government Data Analytics Center (GDAC) is to transform existing data assets into an information utility for the State’s policy and operational leaders for their use in making program investment decisions, managing resources, and improving financial programs, budgets, and results. A specific use case with the Department of Transportation will be highlighted as an example of GDAC projects.

      Feeling the afternoon slump? This session will get you moving and networking. Attendees will be asked questions related to IT trends and will move to different spots in the ballroom based on their answer. Spend time talking to those that selected the same option and then share your group's opinion with the larger group. It’s data visualization with humans.

      After the Storm: Disaster Recovery Lessons from Hurricane Maria

      Tony Riddick (VI) and Luis Arocho (PR) share lessons learned from the devastating impact Hurricane Maria had on their respective territories last year. Learn what they were prepared for, what caught them by surprise and how they are recovering. After individual presentations, Craig Orgeron (MS) will moderate a discussion between Tony and Luis with plenty of time for Q&A with the audience.

      User-Centered Design: A Pillar of Digital Government

      As Don Draper says in Mad Men, “Make it simple, but significant.” To achieve simplicity and ease of use for mobile apps and digital solutions, the end user must be incorporated in the design process. A brief showcase of state-specific apps will launch a panel discussion on the philosophies, methodologies and tactics states are using to ensure a user-centered design process that meet their digital government goals.

Whether it is strategic vision, policy imperative, security risks, or business case investments – CIOs and other officials in the CIO Office, must be able to effectively communicate complex issues both internally and externally. This discussion will use real life scenarios to showcase how to tailor your message to your audience and what not to do. Communication tools (e.g. websites, collateral, infographics) will also be discussed.

      Open data is a way for states to provide transparency and accountability of government, increase citizen engagement and promote economic growth. For these benefits to be realized though, citizens must have more than just access to data, they must understand how to make sense of that data. The project Data for Main Street: Bringing Open Data Home through Local Libraries will launch this interactive discussion on how to make open data open for all.
