With summer winding down, Congress is back in session from their latest recess. While not much is expected from Congress before the election in November, there were a few workplaces laws and regulations adopted in New Hampshire that are worth noting.   NH Legislation

Legal Links is now a regular section providing useful links to employment law resources. This information is provided by MAHRA Members Andrea Chatfield, Esq. of Cook, Little, Rosenblatt & Manson and Jim Reidy, Esq. of Sheehan, Phinney, Bass, & Green.

Our October Program - The Heroin/Opiate Crisis in the Workplace
- Responding to the Prescription Opioid and Heroin Crisis: An Epidemic of Addiction
Are you appropriately prepared on how to recognize the signs and symptoms of an employee that may be under the influence of a narcotic?  Do you know the appropriate questions you can ask, or how to handle a situation such as this legally? Join us for a 2 Part Program designed to educate and inform you about this ongoing epidemic:

* Officer Nathan Linstad will present the "Street Side" of these raging issues to include a valuable perspective from a recovering addict
* Attorney Jim Reidy will provide appropriate content on how to approach these issues from a legal perspective.
More info is available in our program flyer.

MAHRA Presents NH Career Connections - "Reaching Out to Move Up in Life"
The Manchester Human Resource Association, along with our sponsors, is pleased to present its 1st annual career day.  This event will present opportunities for students, young professionals, veterans and others to learn about industries and businesses in our local area and the particular skills that are needed to be successful in these organizations.

It's rare when businesses are given the opportunity to meet with students, young professionals, veterans and others en masse - their future workforce - unless it's through a Job or Career Fair which requires the business have employment openings.  But even if companies have employment openings, job opportunities often require post-secondary education or at least high school completion in order for applicants to apply or become interested.

*****NOT FOR THIS EVENT******

On October 27 at Manchester Community College, businesses can discuss 'future' opportunities and the careers within their own company while enticing students, young professionals, veterans and others to engage with companies during a time when they are making decisions about their future.   This is a huge opportunity for Manchester area corporations to engage with these individuals in a developmentally safe, non-pressured-filled environment that often accompanies a Job Fair.  Included in this event will be:
***Exhibit Hall – open all day to students, young professionals, veterans, others to visits with businesses to learn what skill sets are needed to succeed at that particular business.
***Mock Interviews
***Resume Review Sessions
***Learning Sessions

We encourage your businesses to join us. Registration is $125.   Register for this event at http://www.cvent.com/d/9vq1bl/1Q

We are also in need of volunteers to help with mock interviews and resume review.  Please contact Sandra Jobe at  Sandra.Jobe@securitasinc.com if you can volunteer.
