A Letter from our President, Wendy Glick

Fellow fundraisers – did you go to college to be a professional fundraiser? Recently I had a conversation with a few veteran fundraisers and we discovered that none of us went to school and studied anything even remotely close to working in not-for-profit, and in particular fundraising. I majored in broadcast journalism and minored in political science. My dream job nearly 40 years ago when I graduated from college was to work in Washington D.C. reporting on the news of the day. WOW – am I glad my plans never came true! |
Knowing my intended career path, you may be surprised to learn that several weeks ago I made the conscious decision to stop watching television news. Everything was negative. People yelling and complaining. Others claiming what was being reported was fake news. I decided that I don’t need all of that negativity in my life. What about you? Want to leave the bad news of the day behind you and spend some time learning what’s right with the world? Well, I’ve got an idea for you!
Please join the Greater Wichita Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals for National Philanthropy Day 2018. This annual event, held this year on Friday, November 16th, will begin at 8:00 a.m. with two professional development sessions that are sure to inspire, followed by a luncheon honoring those who have so generously participated in acts of kindness while fundraising for their favorite community cause. Share a funny story: Recently, I was with an event committee member testing different recipes for our signature drink for our annual fundraiser. This member had shared about a fabulous recipe that always tastes good and is a crowd pleaser. When we made the recipe, it had too much of an ingredient and it was nasty! Needless to say, we laughed about that for a long time. We eventually found a good recipe but boy it was hard to forget that bad drink.
