DASNY News & Updates: JULY 2018
DASNY Wraps Up Successful First Half of 2018 in Municipal Bond Market

DASNY was cited once again by The Bond Buyer and Reuters as one of the most prolific issuers in the nation.

They reported that DASNY delivered to the market issuances
totaling $3.2 billion.

This includes $325 million for Columbia University to fund the design, construction, and renovation of science and health care facilities, as well as $593 million for New York University for arts education, advanced medical research, sports and recreation, and student housing facilities.

DASNY also sold $585.2 million on behalf of 56 New York State school districts, which was the largest pooled school districts issue in DASNY history.
DASNY Releases RFQ for Life Sciences Laboratory

On July 2, in partnership with the New York State Department of Health and Empire State Development, DASNY issued a Request for Qualifications seeking qualified design-build entities or teams capable of designing and constructing a new, multi-purpose NYS Life Sciences Public Health Laboratory.

DASNY is authorized to utilize design-build for the project, which has a total budget of $750 million.

The new Life Sciences Laboratory, which will be located in the Capital Region, will foster innovation and collaboration within DOH’s Wadsworth Center, as well as between the Wadsworth Center and outside partners, thereby contributing to New York State’s broader life sciences initiative in the Capital Region.
National Urban Fellows Program Welcomes Dr. Bushell

Baruch College together with the National Urban Fellows Program is investing in the next generation of leaders by offering training to help young professionals become effective change agents in public and not-for-profit sectors, with a strong commitment to social justice and equality. The classes, held at Baruch’s DASNY-built Vertical Campus, features guest speakers from a network of fellows, mentors, alumni, and community partners who inspire excellence and diversity in public service leadership.

On July 11, Dr. Bushell was invited to address one of these select groups of students. He relayed to them how important diversity and inclusion are to his experience – from his time in the private sector as one of the only minorities in a meeting room, to the public sector where he leads an organization helping create opportunities and building capacity for minority- and women-owned businesses in New York State. Dr. Bushell gave some advice about what it takes to be a leader.

“As leaders in the industry, we must be compassionate, decisive and bring a level of pragmatism to our work,” said Dr. Bushell. “We must also recognize reality and be able to continuously innovate.”

Through the National Urban Fellows Program, students are prepared for leadership through a combination of internships and full-time study. Following the completion of the program, students earn a Master of Public Administration.
