THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
|
Joe Auricchio
President |
Since our last newsletter, VSHE Members have been busy.
We spent time at our annual conference in May. This year’s conference was at a bigger venue than last year, and The Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center received many good reviews. We are reviewing all the feedback and are planning to return to Roanoke in 2019.
VCU Health hosted a group of Virginia CTE teachers and administrators from the Virginia Dept. of Education on June 21. They got to see the inner workings of how a hospital keeps the lights on and the air cool. Rick Sanders and I talked about our careers, and how two guys from Kansas and New York now help run a large medical center
VSHE also had its first sponsored Career Day at the Hanover County Tech Center in Mechanicsville, VA. Eight vendors greeted and talked with graduating high school seniors. Many thanks to Siemen’s and UV Resources for sponsoring lunch. UV Resources also committed to donating a bank of UV lights for the HVAC students to train with in their classroom. The pics below are from our Hanover Career Day!
VSHE members were also on the agenda at the ASHE conference in Seattle July 15-18. Scott Blankenship and Dylan Henderson from the Carilion Clinic gave a well-received presentation titled “Are You Ready to Operate? Designing Operating Rooms to Meet Surgical Advancements”.
Lastly, we are working on an upgrade to the VSHE website. We plan to GO LIVE on Monday, July 30th!! Check out the new website on Monday!
Becoming a better organization does not happen because one person does a lot. It happens because a lot of people do a little. If you have any ideas or want to get involved, reach out to a Board member to see how to get involved. We hope that you will use the Virginia Society of Healthcare Engineers as a forum for the exchange of innovative ideas, practical solutions to problems, and as a resource for current developments in the healthcare industry.
Respectfully,
~Joe Auricchio BS, CHFM

2018 Awards
VSHE recognized key partners that have made a significant
contribution to the healthcare engineering field in the Commonwealth of
Virginia. They are:
2018 President’s Award: Belinda Currin
The Virginia Society of Healthcare Engineers (VSHE) 2018 President’s Award is presented to Belinda Currinfor outstanding
dedication to the society by overseeing the creation of two conferences
that showcase the VSHE mission. As the Virginia Society of Healthcare
Engineers goes through a period of transition, Belinda stepped up to
help us in the most visible way and took the lead to plan our annual
conference. She also took the lead on the first VSHE one day seminar in
October of 2017. Belinda and her partners contacted and negotiated with
many people, venues and sponsors to create a pleasant environment for
learning and networking. She has set the criteria for which our future
conferences will be planned and measured. For this, we are proud to
present Belinda Currin the 2018 Presidents Award.

National Health Care Facilities & Engineering Week
Take the time to recognize your staff for all they do to optimize the health care physical environment during National Health Care Facilities & Engineering Week, October 21-27, 2018.
You and your staff are important members of your health care team – your department keeps your facility operational, safe, and efficient. Because of all you do, there is power; running water; and a clean, comfortable, and safe healing environment for all who walk through your doors. What you may think is ordinary is truly extraordinary. Without you and your staff’s efforts, the doors of your facility would not be open.
