Major companies are increasing their focus on our region as a great location for growth given our deep talent pool and quality of life. Northern Virginia Chamber is thrilled to present the research findings of the unprecedented collaboration among Cushman & Wakefield, JLL, and Newmark Knight Frank on how long it really takes to build a new headquarters in the Capitol region when compared to the leading tech markets in the country. This presentation will be followed by a response panel of practitioners who will discuss the reality of the consequences of this data and prescribe opportunities for improvement by our local jurisdictions to make our region as competitive as possible. Annual Capital Region Business Forum on 9/6

The Annual Capital Region Business Forum will be held this year on Thursday, September 6 from 7:30-9:30AM at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner. The Forum will provide key leaders the opportunity to discuss their cooperative efforts to bolster the regional economy in an ever competitive global marketplace. The event will address opportunities and challenges that affect the District of Colombia, the State of Maryland, and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Learn more about the event and register here

Northern Virginia Regional Elected Leaders Summit on 8/29
Join the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce, the Prince William Chamber of Commerce, the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce and the Northern Virginia Regional Commission for a roundtable featuring the Mayor of the City of Alexandria (invited) and Chairs of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William Counties on Wednesday, August 29 from 8:00-11:00AM at Waddell Theater! Register for George Mason University’s Annual Business Celebration
Register today for George Mason University’s Annual Business Celebration, hosted by George Mason’s School of Business. The event will take place on Thursday, October 25 from 6:00-10:00PM at the Hyatt Regency Tysons Corner Center. The celebration brings together 350+ George Mason University community partners, alumni, faculty, and students. Chief Learning Officer Program Starts Aug. 23 at George Mason University’s Arlington Campus
George Mason University’s Chief Learning Officer program is designed by Mason's Executive and Professional Education team to build upon the strategic capabilities of participants. The program starts Thursday, August 23 at the Arlington Campus. Applications are now being accepted for this unique hybrid executive development program which combines classroom and online learning modules. The program also offers specialized courses for commercial and federal sectors. The role of a Chief Learning Officer (CLO) continues to gain importance as organization leaders recognize the increasing need for a strategic approach to generating effective, mission-driven performance. Foundation for FCPS Opens Nominations for Partner of the Year Awards
The Foundation for FCPS is inviting nominations for its Business, Community, and Workforce Development Partners of the Year. These awards recognize the valuable contributions being made by business and nonprofit partners throughout FCPS and increase awareness of the importance of business and civic involvement in our school system. Nominations will be accepted through September 12, 2018. Awards will be presented at the State of Education Luncheon on Tuesday, November 27th. All proceeds from the event will be used to fund grants to teachers across the country with a focus on work-based learning and employment readiness. To learn more, click here.

DC DATACON: November 7
Join this multidisciplinary conversation as you explore the technology, economics, ethics, and strategy of the world’s fastest growing discipline – Data Science! This year’s conference builds on the success of the inaugural 2017 event with plans to go even bigger. Data Community DC is proud to again partner with George Washington University and the greater DC data community to produce DC DATACON 2018. Corporate & Securities Attorney Susan Kim Joins Womble Bond Dickinson in Northern Virginia
Womble Bond Dickinson has further strengthened its corporate and securities practice in Northern Virginia with the addition of attorney Susan Kim. Kim’s practice includes guiding clients in mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations and other corporate transactions. She also has experience in the investment management industry, counseling registered investment companies and investment advisers on regulatory and compliance issues. Alzheimer’s Association Upcoming Fundraising Events
The Alzheimer’s Association has two upcoming fundraising events. The first will be held at Jimmy’s Old Town Tavern in Herndon on Thursday, August 9 from 6:00-9:00PM. This event will consists of fun and football while attendees can watch the Redskins vs. Patriots game and win door prizes including an autographed football by Lorenzo Alexander! If you are interested, contact samartey@alz.org). The second event will be held at First Virginia Community Bank in Fairfax on Friday, August 17 from 5:30-8:00PM. This annual wine tasting event will feature live music, appetizers and a raffle! If you are interested, contact bbower@fvcbank.com. Proceeds from both of these events will benefit the 2018 Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Northern Virginia.

Chef Philip Thompson joins härth at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner with over 20 years of international culinary experience and is classically trained in French cuisine. His specialty is Hyper-local cuisine with contemporary flair and elegant presentation. Notable career highlights include several high-profile events at the Washington Hilton such as the White House Correspondence Dinner, 2009 Youth Inaugural Ball and First Lady’s Luncheon. At the Capital Hilton, Chef implemented sustainability initiatives to reduce hotel carbon footprint and led a team of 35 employees across culinary, stewarding and purchasing. United Airlines Announces New Nonstop Service Between Washington, D.C. and Tel Aviv
United Airlines announced it will begin its 20th year of service to Israel with a new nonstop flight between its hub at Washington Dulles International Airport and Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion International Airport starting May 22, 2019 - subject to government approval. The new flight will be the first to be operated by a U.S. carrier between the two cities. To read a full press release, click here.

United Airlines Strengthens Domestic Route Network: Announces New Washington Dulles - Miami Service and Expands to 33 New Destinations in Four Months
United Airlines announced it will begin new daily service between its hub at Washington Dulles International Airport and Miami International Airport. United's newest route announcement builds on the airline's focus to offer its customers more opportunities to conveniently connect to more domestic and international destinations than ever before by boosting connectivity and expanding service from its seven U.S. gateways.
