Following March Marketplace, ETOA ran a focus group among various members who attended the workshop to look at all aspects of the event and see where enhancements could be made. Many attendees have also provided feedback through our post-event survey and if you attended then we would encourage you to take a moment to complete the survey (please check you email for an invitation for this survey).

The Japan Working Group

The Japan Working Group has been meeting recently to discuss challenges for this important market. Outbound travel has bounced back since the tragic events of 2011 but Europe has to work hard to attract the next generation of travellers and consumer law is also having a large effect on the market. ETOA will be working with partners in 2013 to attempt to improve the current state of affairs.

Vatican Museums

ETOA has also attended the latest meetings with the Vatican Museums, with particular focus on the continuing practical and cost implications of the new headset system. The Vatican Museums will be providing extra cover at the entrance to provide protection from the elements for visitors as they have their headsets fitted but there is still concern that the current system will be stretched at the height of the season. At present visitors can use the Vatican headsets also in St Peters but they still have to register and pay a ‘corkage’ fee. There was also a call for all parties to work together to reduce the number of headsets that are misplaced during visits.

Matilda the Musical

Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, with original songs from comedian Tim Minchin and book by Dennis Kelly, Matilda is the captivating musical masterpiece from the Royal Shakespeare Company that revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination and the inspiring story of a girl who dares to change her destiny.

Receiving universal praise following the show opening in New York this year and winner of a record-breaking seven Olivier Awards in 2012, the show has won over 25 major awards since its London opening in November 2011 when it received 5-star reviews across the board.

Regent's Park Open Air Theatre

Set within the beautiful surroundings of a Royal Park, the award-winning Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre is a firm fixture of summer in the city and the perfect experience to share with family and friends.

Each night an incomparable atmosphere is created by the buzz of people enjoying their theatre-going in every sense: friends setting up hampers on the picnic lawn, filling their glasses with wine or drinking Pimms in the bar as the fairy lights twinkle in the trees.

The theatre’s 2013 season comprises Harper Lee’s American classic To Kill a Mockingbird, followed by Jane Austen’s ultimate romantic comedy Pride and Prejudice and The Winter’s Tale re-imagined for everyone aged six and over. Also for younger visitors is the highly imaginative Dinosaur Zoo. The theatre will then complete their line up with Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music.
