We’re fast approaching this year’s Higher Things Conference season. As you may or may not know, one out of the conferences will be at capacity. This is great news in that so many youth will be able to attend but provides the musical staff with the challenge of a very limited amount of space for instrumentalists at that conference. As a result, we will not be able to seat all musicians this year as we have in the past. In order to determine seating for this conference season, I’ll need you to send a very informal audition audio file.
We’ll need the following instruments this year:
Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Violin, Viola, Cello, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Timpani
DIRECTIONS:
Grab a smartphone, tablet, etc. Make it easy – no professional recording gear is required for this.
At the beginning of the recording, state your name, conference you’re attending, instrument, and play the following three items:
- A chromatic scale from your lowest comfortable note to your highest comfortable note.
- The melody line of your favorite hymn. Bass clef players may play the tenor or bass line of their favorite hymn if they don’t have the melody handy.
- The 8 measure linked here. Pick treble OR bass clef depending on your instrument. Timpani, play rhythm on a single drum of the treble excerpt.
Email files to: chris@loemker.org
Please have recordings to me by Friday, May 31. Seat assignments will be made and music emailed by June 7th.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
