DASNY Puts Clients First, Takes Market by Storm

on March 14
DASNY was acknowledged by The Bond Buyer as having taken the municipal market by storm on March 13, selling about $1.3 billion of Sales Tax bonds in five competitive sales.

The Bond Buyer recognized DASNY as one of the largest municipal bond issuers in the country, highlighting the more than $60 billion in bonds sold since 2008.

The next day, Dr. Bushell sat down with Andrew Coen of The Bond Buyer for a podcast interview. In addition to discussing DASNY being cited by the publication as one of the nation’s most prolific issuers in 2017, Dr. Bushell highlighted how DASNY prepared its clients during a period of uncertainty regarding the future of tax-exempt private activity bonds. This pre-emptive volley, as The Bond Buyer put it, exemplifies how DASNY continues to place the needs of its clients first.

Dr. Bushell also discussed how DASNY’s focus now remains on supporting its partners and helping build a resilient, sustainable, and inclusive New York.

Dewberry, a private professional services firm, has received the Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC – NY). DASNY collaborated with Dewberry and the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery (GOSR) on the installation of five emergency stand-by generators in the greater Amsterdam area following Hurricane Irene.

“The combined efforts of GOSR’s citizen, government and industry partners are making New York’s communities safer, more resilient and stronger,” said Natalie Wright, GOSR Executive Director of Community Reconstruction, Infrastructure & Small Business. The New York Rising Community Reconstruction program, as envisioned and launched by Governor Cuomo, has harnessed local participation to bring essential projects such as this, in the City of Amsterdam, to fruition. "On behalf of GOSR, I congratulate Dewberry for winning this prestigious award and thank them for the vital role they played in our effort to provide emergency power to serve the people of Amsterdam in the event of future power outages, no matter what the cause.”

In a corresponding press release, Dr. Bushell mentioned under Governor Cuomo’s leadership, DASNY is helping ensure that the City and Town of Amsterdam are building back stronger and smarter than ever before, and will be able to meet future emergency needs.

Dewberry was also recognized for its energy performance upgrades at CUNY’s Hunter College, where it provided services for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning improvements at the College’s East and West Buildings. DASNY held the contract, and managed the design and construction for that project, which is expected to translate into more than $50,000 in yearly energy savings or a nearly one-third reduction in electrical costs.

It’s the next step in the fight against the growing opioid epidemic: on Thursday, April 5, the ribbon was cut and an open house was held at the Binghamton Evaluation Center, a new addiction treatment facility operated by Syracuse Behavioral Health. This is a project sponsored by the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) for which DASNY provided construction, design, and purchasing services. Work included interior renovations, as well as purchasing and coordination of kitchen equipment and furniture.

“This facility will provide the Southern Tier with another line of defense against the sweeping opioid epidemic,” said Dr. Gerrard P. Bushell, DASNY President & CEO. “From construction to design and purchasing, DASNY is proud to have the wide-breadth of its services on full display to help bring this project to life and promote healthy communities across New York State.”

Students, faculty and staff at SUNY Alfred State College got a taste of "Extreme Makeover: DASNY Edition" on Friday, April 6. That’s when the ribbon was cut at the college’s MacKenzie Complex. DASNY recently completed the $17.8 million Phase One renovation and students have moved into the 132-bed residence hall.

“We are excited by how the MacKenzie Makeover is taking a residence hall built in the 1970s and turning it into a modern facility that’s getting rave reviews,” said Alfred State College President Dr. Skip Sullivan. “Our students now enjoy a beautiful common space area, a new dining option called ‘TimberLineZ,’ premier living areas, a new fitness center, laundry facility, and much more. While there is much to celebrate, this is only the beginning. We look forward to continuing the work in Phase Two and beyond to totally transform MacKenzie into THE residence hall of choice for Alfred State College students.”

In addition, an existing two-story dining hall on the accompanying quad was completely renovated to create food service, student laundry, a fitness room, and seating areas.
