PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dylan Henderson
Seasons Greetings Members,

I hope this letter finds you all safe, happy and healthy!

Our VSHE Board of Directors has been hard at work planning our 2020 Annual Conference, this year to be held April 20th - 23rd, 2020 at the Newport News Marriott. We have revamped our agenda to provide a more diverse educational experience as well as the ability for greater exposure for all participants to the trade show. More information will be available in mid-January with the release of the finalized agenda along with the opening of registration. We look forward to seeing you there!

Along with our 2020 conference planning, our board has made significant proactive efforts defining our master calendar through the year 2021, including all District meetings, VSHE Spring and Fall conferences and pertinent ASHE dates. Please check out the events calendar on the website, (www.vshe.org) for more information. These efforts are aimed specifically at developing stability within our Board and District leadership structures as we strive to find a Hampton Roads Chairperson and candidates for the office of President and President-Elect in this years election cycle. If interested in volunteering your time in any of these roles, please reach out to myself or any Board Member for more information.

Before signing off, I want to provide a quick reminder that ASHE PDC is just around the corner March 22nd - 25th, 2020 in San Antonio, TX. Early bird registration ends January 10th, 2020.

Wishing you and your family happy holidays and a wonderful start to 2020!

Sincerely,
Dylan Henderson

VSHE is excited to announce the 11th Annual Conference to be held April 20th – 23rd at the Newport News Marriott at City Center. With a goal of building on the success of previous annual conferences, the VSHE Board is focused on designing another educational conference program for our members.  VSHE relies on an active and engaged membership community to support ASHE’s strategic initiatives to build strong industry relationships, foster career development, achieve facility operational excellence, and ultimately provide value to our members. This year’s call for abstracts was no exception. The Board received some phenomenal educational presentation abstracts and is currently in the process of reviewing and finalizing the conference schedule.  In addition to the educational sessions, this year will feature an exciting and dynamic key note speaker as well as an interactive emergency preparedness simulation experience for facility managers.  Similar to previous years the HCC and CHC preparation courses will continue to be offered.  However, this year the CHFM preparation course will be rescheduled to coincide with the Fall Safety Conference.  The Board unanimously voted to waive the annual conference welcome reception fee so we hope to see everyone there to kick off the annual conference.  That’s all I can share for now, but full details will be published in January!  I hope that everyone has a safe and relaxing holiday season and I look forward to seeing you all in April!

As we approach the end of 2019 and consider the opportunities that will come in 2020, let’s take a moment to value VSHE membership. Our members form a uniquely tight knit community all associated with Healthcare Facility Maintenance and Management. There is no other organization that connects the disciplines of design, construction, planning, and maintenance like VSHE. Only through VSHE do members get to collaborate independently of specific project demands. We get to compare our lessons learned from across the state, health system to health system, project to project, and administration to administration. We share our experiences and offer a helping hand to our colleagues. They say membership has its privileges and it certainly does. VSHE members are exclusively connected to one another in a way that affords access and open communication to help elevate our ability to serve the hospitals we represent and love. If you’re not a member, well, you just won’t understand what I am talking about because you have never had the experience, but that can easily be remedied!

The Benefits of ASHE Membership

As a member of VSHE, we encourage each of you who are not members of ASHE to consider joining. In the complex field of healthcare facilities management there is only one organization that speaks for us in all forums to include certification organizations, CMMS, and Code and Standards organizations: And that is ASHE!! In addition to advocacy, ASHE also is a leading source of education and certification programs in healthcare facilities. ASHE also conducts two national training sessions each year: (1) the Planning, Design and Construction Summit in the Spring, and (2) the Annual Conference in the Summer. These are truly one-stop meetings for all things “healthcare”. Please consider joining this great organization that represents our field.
