June 2020
A Message from the Chapter President, Mike Wescott
|
Who would have thought that any of us would have experienced what has transpired over the last three months. Never in my life time could I have seen it. And today in our country, and even across the globe, so many people are torn apart by fear, injustices and racial clashes. I hate to see this and have reflected considerably on what I can and should be doing to bring greater peace to our world.
As professional fundraisers, we naturally are bridge builders that connect people (our donors) to projects, service, the arts, higher education, just to name a few. We connect donors to what gives them passion. As I was starting my career in this field
|
back in 2001, a mentor gave me a definition of our work. She said that the ultimate goal of our work is to help people fulfill their dreams. It could be a dream of helping a student get a college education, a dream of helping feed those who search for food or shelter in our community, or to create a perpetual funding stream to build affordable housing. Whatever a donor dreams of – we should be there to help connect them to advance those dreams. We are connectors and bridge builders!
So maybe, just maybe, we can be a part of a solution to the fears of today. What can we do, within our roles as professional fundraisers, to bring greater peace to the world that we live in?
Something to ponder for sure. I don’t know the answers but I do know that it can start with a simple act of gratitude. For example, showing our gratitude to those in our communities who excel in what they do or how they serve in our organizations. With this in mind, I would like to ask everyone to please consider making a nomination for National Philanthropy Day 2020. Here’s a link to the quick and easy nominations page.
Thanks everyone for your patience with our programming over the last several months. We hope to start offering in-person sessions in August.
With gratitude,
Mike Wescott, CFRE
