Visions: President’s Twist on a Beloved Holiday Poem
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through Clerk land,
Not an Elected Official was stirring, as no elections were planned;
The agendas were posted on the boards with great care,
In hopes an emergency meeting would not be needed there;
The Professionals were nestled all snug in their bed,
While VISIONS of time off danced in their heads;
And Faith in her 'kerchief, and the Pres in her cap,
Had just settled our brains for a holiday nap;
When out front of City Hall there arose such a chatter,
We sprang from our desks to see what was the matter;
When what to our wondering ears did we hear,
But the voices of WMCA Board Members so near;
More rapid than eagles with footsteps they came,
And they hooted and hollered and shouted their names;
"I’m, Wendy! I’m, Sara! I’m Brenda! and I’m Angie!
I’m, Kelly! I’m, Claudia! I’m Pam! and I’m Kathy!
I’m, Melissa! I’m, Deanna! I’m Roben! and I’m Marie!
I’m, Michelle! I’m, Jennifer! I’m Sue and I’m Julie!
I’m Jill! I’m Michelle! I’m Cindi! and I’m Kassie!
As they marched into the hall, straight up to the clock tower,
The President cheered, “How wonderful, now is the hour!”
So, while dancing and laughing and clicking their heel,
They marched to the rooftop with an abundance of zeal;
And Proclaimed with great joy and all of their might,
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

Victories: Last March I reached out to the Director (Chris Shalby) of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) to discuss an important initiative WMCA was working on - taking steps to bring back the high regard for the Clerks position by referring to all Clerk staff as “Professional.” I requested IIMC to consider changing their annual Clerk’s Week Proclamation to include the word Professional because IIMC initially created the Proclamation 50 years ago. Chris shared my enthusiasm and spoke to the IIMC Board at their meeting on May 22. The Board approved referring the recommendation of adding the word Professional to the Municipal Clerks Week Proclamation to the IIMC Public Relations/Marketing Committee. The Committee met in fall and approved the addition. THANK YOU IIMC for sharing our Vision and making it a Victory.
Farewell to 2019:
As the year draws to an end, it’s a good time for each of us to think about all we have to be grateful for. For me, you came to mind, the WMCA membership of Professional Clerks. I think about my relationship with our WMCA members, the opportunity to serve you and my part in the WMCA family. I appreciate you, the Professional, taking this journey with me, the hard work you do for your community, your commitment and dedication, and for being an integral part in helping others see the Clerkworld as a profession and those that serve in the Clerk capacity as a Professional.
WMCA’s forty years of existence (well almost) has constantly evolved, which is an achievement that we can all be proud of. We have made impressive progress in our goals, networking, mentoring, education and raising our Professional profile. There is still plenty to be achieved in WMCA’s evolution and I see next year lined up with many Victories to come.
In this holiday season, take time to be thankful for what you have, remember to embrace your loved ones and be grateful for the feeling of having them around. Whatever is beautiful, Whatever is meaningful, Whatever brings you happiness, I wish this for you and so much more. May 2020 fill your life with contentment, laughter, spectacular success, peace, love, health and happiness. God Bless, Diane

WCPC Certifications
|
|
The WMCA Certification Committee is proud to announce the latest two members to have earned their WCPC certification. The WCPC is the Wisconsin Certified Professional Clerk designation.
Angie M. Cain, WCPC - Town Clerk - Town of Grand Chute, WI
Kelly S. Michaels, WCPC - City Clerk - City of Brookfield, WI
The WMCA implemented its certification program in July 2005. Clerks earn the WCPC after they have earned their WCMC. They not only earn points in education, career and lifelong learning experiences, but also by giving back to their community and the WMCA; and committing to the WMCA Code of Ethics. The Wisconsin Certified Professional Clerk certification is the highest certification awarded by WMCA. It truly means that these clerks have spent their entire Clerk career attending educational sessions to keep up with all of the new processes and laws; and volunteering with WMCA and going the extra mile in their communities.
Congratulations Angie & Kelly!!
