Newsletter November 2021

November 2021 Newsletter

From all of us at the BSCC, may we extend a heartfelt thank you to all our members over the past year.

What a journey the past two years have been for both members and the Chamber alike. We, like many of you, have had to triumph staggered lockdowns and accelerate our digitalisation strategies. With the strength, support and sheer determination of patrons, members, our volunteers and the central team, we are pleased to report some success and are now very glad to be going back to delivering in-person events. Where we can, we will continue periodically to offer hybrid functions, maximising the reach across our nine Chapters. This year we have delivered more than 50 events, launched a brand new website, created a new chapter in Lausanne and continued flourishing relationships with our strategic partners.

We hope you stay with us to enjoy the next year's journey, promising A Mutual Recognition Agreement between the UK and Switzerland financial services sectors; solutions and strategies for going net zero by 2030, and supporting the growth and information exchange across our life sciences platforms and other interesting industry sectors.

With kind regards,

Graham Seymour and Haig Simonian
Acting Co-Presidents of The British-Swiss Chamber of Commerce

Do you know your UK pension could be transferred to Switzerland tax free?

The vested benefit foundation Independent is registered with HMRC as a QROPS and can therefore accept tax-free transfers of UK pension benefits. We are the only foundation in Switzerland who can do so.

Who can move their English pension into Independent? The following conditions must be fulfilled: you must have left the UK permanently and you are over 55 years old. Furthermore, you must be domiciled in Switzerland and have a UK pension pot of over CHF 100’000.-.

By transferring your pension to Independent, you will benefit from several advantages, as no tax is due on the transferred assets. You will pay a low tax on cash withdrawal later, and your pension is exempt from inheritance tax. Furthermore, UK pension schemes are held and paid in Sterling. As a non-resident in the UK, this will expose you to currency fluctuation risks as you are living in Switzerland.

What about the personalised investment possibilities? Every pension account holder can compose an individual, tailor-made investment solution within the investment guidelines. You will benefit from full transparency on the performance, fees, and charges of the selected investment. Furthermore, the individual assets do not need to be divested, but may be transferred into your private account.

Please remember that in respect of UK pension rules, a transferred pension capital cannot be cashed in during a period of 5 years.
