Happy Spring!
I hope that this newsletter finds you well. It is hard to believe that it is almost April. I am always reminded that Spring is a time for new beginnings as we emerge from the winter blues.
The ACC-New York City (“NYC”) Chapter has had a great start to 2024 with some amazing events. In January, we kicked off the year by hosting our first Diversity Event: Diversity in Investigation A Toolkit for Gender & Diversity to Build Better Teams and Improve Investigations. We have also hosted several CLE webinars as well as in person CLE and networking events: Happy Hour event; Global Business Adapts to Evolving Data Protection Laws; Building Partnerships With Outside Counsel; Immediate Employment Law Issue Facing In-House Counsel; Deploying AI in your Business and Products – Legal Risks and Issues.
If you are looking for ways to give back to the next generation of lawyers, we are hosting our Career Day Program Event at Brooklyn Law School on Monday, April 8. Other April events are: Avoiding Litigation and Developing AI Best Practices and Virtual Community Building Event: Healthcare Industry Roundtable: The Year Ahead. Please check out our events calendar regularly for upcoming events and be on the lookout in early June for our Annual General Counsel Toolkit Full Day CLE.
We are excited for this year’s programs. On behalf of myself and the ACC-NYC Board, we look forward to you getting more involved with the ACC-NYC Chapter, our members and sponsors and welcoming you at one of our upcoming events.

USCIS Fee Increase: What You Need to Know to Plan Your 2024 Immigration Budget
By: Scott Bettridge & David S. Adams
Starting April 1, 2024, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will implement a meaningful fee increase, the first increase since 2016. Numerous case types and specific forms will receive significant fee increases, including but not limited to the following:
  • H-1B: Increase from $460 to $780 (70% increase)
  • H-1B cap registration fee: Increase from $10 to $215 per registration (2050% increase)
  • L-1: Increase from $460 to $1,385 (201% increase)
  • TN: Increase from $460 to $1,015 (121% increase)
  • EB-5 immigrant petitions: Increase $3,675 to $11,160 (204% increase)
    • USCIS claims this is required to avoid backlogs.
  • I-129 and I-140: Now subject to a $600 standard asylum program fee.
    • Companies with 25 or fewer full-time employees are subject to a $300 fee, and nonprofits are exempt from this fee.
  • Premium processing (expedited service): Increase from $2,500 to $2,805 (12% increase)
    • However, premium processing will change from calendar to business days, increasing the overall processing time.
Obviously, this is a significant fee increase, which will dramatically impact the employer’s immigration budget. For a few tips for employers to immediately consider in light of the fee increases give this article a read from our friends at Cozen O'Connor.
