Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce Announces Incubator|Accelerator|Actuator Partnership Program

On Monday, April 30, The Northern Virginia Chamber announced the first partners in its new Incubator|Accelerator|Actuator Program - a comprehensive partnership program that will foster collaboration between the broad-based business community and innovative and entrepreneurial organizations in the Greater Washington Metropolitan Area. The first partners in this initiative – the Inova Personalized Health Accelerator and Smart City Works - signed partnership agreements with the Northern Virginia Chamber. The Incubator |Accelerator| Actuator (I|A|A) Partner Program will pair a select group of the region’s leading business Incubators, Accelerators, and Actuators with Chamber Collaboration Councils. 2018 Distinguished Service Awards Applications Open

The Distinguished Service Awards honor individuals, companies, and non-profit organizations for their service to veterans in the Greater Washington business community. The Awards are presented in recognition of community stewardship and business leadership. The Distinguished Service Awards will be held this year on Wednesday, July 18 from 11:30AM - 1:30PM at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner. Click here to read more about the submission process. These establishments are known for their enjoyable atmospheres, quality service, exceptional experiences, and tasty bites – embodying hospitality and excellence. Mix and mingle, meet and eat with members of the hospitality industry and business community for an evening of friendly networking as restaurants serve bite size samples of some of their best dishes at the awards on Thursday, June 7 from 5:30 - 7:30 PM at the Silverline Center Atrium. ACT I Announces Debra Lehman as Vice President, Business Development and GSA OASIS Program Manager
Advanced Concepts and Technologies International, LLC (ACT I), announced the addition of Ms. Debra Lehman as the company’s Vice President of Business Development and Program Manager for its General Services Administration (GSA) OASIS contract. She will support ACT I’s growth strategy through the identification, qualification, and pursuit of new business opportunities with the U.S. Navy and federal civilian agency customers. Dewberry’s Jerry Mrykalo Named 2018 Rising Star by ACEC of Virginia

Dewberry announced that Associate Jerry Mrykalo, PE, PTOE, has been named the 2018 Rising Star by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Virginia, a statewide association of professional engineering firms. Mrykalo is a transportation engineer based in the firm’s Fairfax, Virginia, office where he leads the mid-Atlantic traffic engineering group. The Rising Star award recognizes outstanding firm professionals who significantly contribute to their company’s success and exhibit leadership skills that make them future key players in Virginia’s engineering profession. United Way of the National Capital Area’s Do More 24
United Way of the National Capital Area’s Do More 24 event will be held this year from noon on Thursday, May 17 until noon on Friday, May 18. Prescheduled Giving opens on Tuesday, May 1. Do More 24 is the largest 24-hour online fundraiser in the National Capital Area. This event allows anyone to be a philanthropist and builds a better community. To learn more, click here.

Fairfax Futures Welcomes New Executive Director Sallyann Bergh
Sallyann Bergh joins Fairfax Futures as its new executive director, replacing Vera Blore, who is relocating after having served in the role for a total of nearly eight years. Bergh joins the organization after a five-year stint at the Pew Charitable Trusts. To learn more, click here.

PenFed Foundation Launches Veteran Entrepreneur Investment Program
The PenFed Foundation announced the launch of its new Veteran Entrepreneur Investment Program (VEIP). Through Foundation contributions and matching funding of up to $1 million from PenFed Credit Union in 2018, the program will: provide veteran-owned start-ups with seed capital to build and grow their businesses, create a robust network for veteran-owned businesses to succeed and enable the PenFed Foundation to perpetually re-invest returns in future veteran-owned businesses. Northern Virginia Family Service Kicks off its CARE Awards Process with its First Virtual Week of Service to Promote Corporate Social Responsibility

For more than 25 years, the CARE Awards have recognized progressive companies moving the needle to make Northern Virginia a better place for everyone to work, live and play. Deep community impact has always been a key pillar of becoming a CARE-ing company, and NVFS actively collaborates with our corporate partners to encourage volunteer engagement through our various programs. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has also become an effective tool for not only making waves within the community, but by increasing employment engagement, productivity and workplace wellness.
