HFMA Michigan Great Lakes Chapter Update – September 2025
Chapter President’s Message
Courtney Guernsey, President, Michigan Great Lakes Chapter of HFMA

Dear HFMA Michigan Great Lakes Chapter Members,

What an incredible way to kick off the fall season! Last week, our chapter hosted the 70th Annual Fall Conference, and I could not be more proud of the turnout and the energy that filled the room. We exceeded capacity at the venue—a true testament to the strength of our community and the value we create when we come together to share, learn, and grow.
A special highlight of the conference was the two executive panels that brought thought-provoking dialogue and practical insight to the forefront. Our Finance Executive Panel sparked important conversations about how OBBA will shape the future of healthcare finance and what it means for each of us navigating this evolving landscape. Meanwhile, the Revenue Cycle Executive Panel delivered timely perspectives on what’s top of mind for healthcare organizations today, from operational challenges to opportunities for innovation. Both panels left us with valuable takeaways and inspiration to bring back to our organizations.
We were also fortunate to hear from Shawn Stack, whose thoughtful insights into pending and emerging legislation shed light on the challenges and opportunities healthcare organizations will face in the foreseeable future. His expertise helped frame the broader policy landscape and gave us much to consider as we prepare for what’s ahead. In addition, I want to recognize and thank all those who led our breakout sessions. Your time, preparation, and expertise provided attendees with practical tools, fresh perspectives, and actionable knowledge they could bring back to their organizations—an essential part of what makes our conference so impactful year after year.
I also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our Enterprise Champions who attended the inaugural roundtable meeting during the conference. Your engagement, perspective, and partnership are already shaping the future direction of our chapter. For those Enterprise organizations who have not yet appointed an Enterprise Champion, I encourage you to consider doing so. This is a unique opportunity to ensure your organization has a voice at the table and plays an active role in helping us align our chapter’s offerings to your evolving needs.
Together, we are building momentum not just for this year, but for the next 70 years of HFMA Michigan Great Lakes. Thank you again to all who attended, participated, and supported this milestone event. Our chapter is strong because of you.
Warm regards,
Courtney Guernsey, FHFMA, EHRC, CRCR
President, HFMA Michigan Great Lakes Chapter
