Northern Virginia Chamber to co-host 2019 Shape of the Region Conference on 3/7
The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia, in partnership with the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce, the Northern Virginia Regional Commission and the Northern Virginia Technology Council, announces the 2019 Shape of the Region Conference, The Business Case for Economic Mobility on Thursday, March 7 from 8:00-11:45AM. Our local economy continues to thrive. But our region, like the entire country, is experiencing a growing gulf between the have and the have nots, rising income inequality, and a lack of economic mobility that has developed in the past 50 years. It is a defining problem of our age, and everyone has a role to play in helping to solve it. Inspired by the US Partnership on Mobility from Poverty, the 2019 Shape of the Region Conference will discuss strategies that each sector of society can deploy to achieve a more expanded, more inclusive economy that benefits us all. Sponsorships now available, please contact Jennifer Williamson for more details. To learn more and register, click here.

Northern Virginia Chamber Executive Committee Member Eileen Ellsworth Presents at TedX Tysons Event
Why do people give? We often tell ourselves it is because we want to help – to meet the need of others. But in this Talk that was given at a TedX Tysons event on November 30, 2018 at the State Theatre in Falls Church, Eileen Ellsworth, President and CEO of the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia and a member of the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce, shares a collection of eye-opening stories that reveal a new insight — that perhaps our desire to give comes from a primal need to connect, to belong, and to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. Since becoming the President and CEO of the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia in 2005, Eileen has helped reinvent and reimagine the Community Foundation’s work and purpose. Today, it is an influential social and civic voice that helps grow local philanthropy and lead and convene the community. Eileen currently serves on the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce Board, the Northern Virginia Regional Board for GO Virginia, and the Advisory Board for George Mason University’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
