Leadership Insight Series: Libya
Shared Destiny. Shared Responsibility.
|
FEATURED SPEAKERS
|
In our ongoing series of Libya focused programming, Mustafa Sanalla, Chairman of Libya’s National Oil Corporation will be joined by Dr. Adel Chaouch to discuss opportunities for investment even in the face of current challenges. Dr. Chaouch, Director, Middle East and North Africa of Marathon Oil Company, also serves as Chairman of Waha Oil Company’s (WOC) Second Party Consortium, a joint venture between Marathon, ConocoPhillips, Hess and the Libyan National Oil Company.
Originally
established in 1956 as the Oasis Oil Company, now WOC is one of the
largest concession agreements in Libya operating 19 concessions with
production capacity of over 350,000 barrels per day. The concession areas
cover approximately 13 million acres. There are four main producing
areas with over 1,000 wells operated by WOC. Currently, due to damages
caused during the civil unrest, WOC is producing only around 75,000
barrels per day and plans to ramp up to its full capacity over the next 18
months.
Along with WOC, Libyan authorities and stakeholders are determined to increase their daily production, restore their infrastructure, enhance exploration capabilities and secure their oil fields and ports. Cognizant of the fact that they can’t achieve these goals alone, they are eager to promote outside investment creating a fertile ground for U.S. companies looking to enhance or expand their presence in North and Sub-Saharan Africa markets.
Participants in this program will hear Mr. Sanalla’s personal insights as to how these factors, among others, are driving the self imposed moratorium on energy sector foreign investments to an end. In addition, Dr. Chaouch will offer his experiences from a U.S. stakeholder perspective, and answer questions from a seasoned executive point of view.

Forward-thinking companies know that even in the face of current challenges, Iraq presents huge commercial prospects. In 2016, U.S. exports to Iraq totaled: $1,268,733,090, and Iraq’s Oil/Gas imports to the U.S. reached: $5,896,314,212, accounting for 98.8% of the country’s imports.
