Easterseals Launches New Staffing Network for the Disability Community in the State of Maryland, the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia
Easterseals DC MD VA has launched the Easterseals Disability Staffing Network (EDSN, pronounced “Edison”), a new social venture employment agency that will match people with disabilities with a wide range of companies and organizations. Currently within the State of Maryland, the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia, there are more than 530,000 working age people with disabilities living in the community. However, only 38 percent are employed. Research shows that people with disabilities are twice as likely to live in poverty due to the lack of opportunities offered to them. Easterseals has launched EDSN, which aims to address the barriers by helping companies meet their hiring needs that could be filled by employees with disabilities. Mariska has more than a decade of experience in all phases of the land use and development process in Northern Virginia, including rezoning, special permit, and special exception and variance applications. Mariska represents land owners, developers, businesses and community non-profits in land use and zoning matters in the counties of Fairfax and Arlington, as well as the City of Fairfax, the Town of Vienna and the Town of Herndon. Through the generous donations of one of Bite Me Cancer’s corporate partners, the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), Bite Me Cancer has access to their corporate suite for three Washington Nationals games this 2018 season. The games are on July 6, August 31, and September 21. Each game starts at 7:00PM. Bite Me Cancer will provide light snacks, soft drinks and water in the suite. Two experienced transactional lawyers have joined Womble Bond Dickinson’s Northern Virginia office. Siaw Ching Lee joined Womble Bond Dickinson as a senior associate from Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in New York. At her previous firm, Lee primarily guided banks and other financial institutions in mergers and acquisitions, stock and asset purchases and other complex commercial transactions. Also joining the Womble Bond Dickinson Northern Virginia office is Joshua Hess. Hess is currently a senior associate based in the firm’s Atlanta office. PenFed Attracts Record Number of Summer Interns
A record 3,300-plus students applied for the opportunity to intern at PenFed, the nation’s second largest federal credit union. Attracting talent from top schools all over the country, 32 undergraduate and three graduate school students were selected to intern at PenFed’s Tysons headquarters and other PenFed locations in the Greater Washington, DC area. Several of the students are returning interns. The interns surprised PenFed leaders attending their kick-off event with an unexpected donation of a portion of their first paychecks to the PenFed Foundation, demonstrating their inspiration from and shared beliefs in PenFed’s commitment to support charitable organizations and the communities in which it serves. George Mason Professor Awarded Inaugural United Bank Presidential Medal for Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion
United Bank is proud to announce the establishment of the United Bank Presidential Medal for Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion at George Mason University. The $10,000 award recognizes extraordinary contributions in research, teaching, and/or service that directly advance diversity and inclusion within and outside of the George Mason community. It will be funded through 2022 and presented to a faculty member annually at George Mason’s commencement ceremonies. On May 18, 2018, George Mason President Ángel Cabrera presented the inaugural award to Angela Hattery, professor and director of the Women and Gender Studies Program.
PAE’s Commitment to Stability Operations Recognized by Industry Association
PAE won the International Stability Operations Association (ISOA) Vanguard Award in the Tier 1, large company category at the ISOA 2018 Achievement Award Ceremony held on June 7.
