Algeria’s $60 Billion Energy Surge Signals New Opportunities for Bilateral Members

At this year's Africa & Mediterranean Energy Exhibition & Conference (NAPEC) 2025, Algeria announced plans—reported by Reuters—to invest about $60 billion over the next five years in energy development. The initiative aims to expand upstream oil and gas production while advancing refining, petrochemicals, hydrogen, and renewables—positioning Algeria as a pivotal energy hub for the Mediterranean and Europe.

Several Bilateral members were among the key international energy companies in attendance as Algeria moves toward agreements for major gas development projects. Their engagement highlights growing opportunities for U.S. energy firms in a region central to global supply security and the evolving energy transition.
