ETOA Tour Guide meeting in Flanders
                                               

At the beginning of December, ETOA held a meeting for tour guides working for our members to review the season gone and look ahead to the commemoration of World War One next year. The initial meeting was held in the grand surroundings of the Pacificatiezaal in the City Hall of Ghent and was followed by a beer tasting at the nearby Gruut city brewery. On the following day, the group visited some of the sites preparing for the next four years in West Flanders: the Lijssenthoek cemetery, the Talbot House in Poperinge, the Yorkshire Farm trench and the Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres. Visit Flanders also presented an overview of their plans, highlighting the international nature of the commemorations. ETOA would like to thank Visit Flanders, Visit Gent, Ypres Tourism and the Gruut Brewery for their support of this event. MITT 2014 is less than three months away and 93% full
            

With less than three months to go, the 21st edition of Moscow’s International Travel and Tourism exhibition (MITT), is rapidly approaching. MITT provides an ideal business platform for professionals from the travel and tourism industry to meet the Russian travel trade.

This includes detail for 190 countries and 18 world regions covering inbound and outbound travel demand as well as origin-destination flows, comprising around 60,000 indicators. Tourism demand forecasts are calculated according to estimated relationships with economic drivers, based on the tested Oxford Economics global macroeconomic model. This approach ensures that all origin and destination tourism flows are calculated on a fully consistent basis and no country is forecast in isolation. Detail for cities as both origins and destinations will be added in 2014.

Annual subscription to TDM is offered to ETOA members at a discounted rate of a 20% reduction relative to the list price. The ENTER 2014 eTourism Conference is approaching!

The Chinese National Tourism Law

 

Global Blue has issued a report on the impact this law, of which the following text is a précis.

On 1st October, the Chinese government passed a law governing tourism. It made selling tours below cost and practices of ‘forced shopping’ illegal and subject to severe penalties.

It is possible that some destinations will witness a reduction in Chinese visitors as tours that were sold below cost price are cancelled. Global Blue’s Chinese office has already collected evidence that package tour prices have significantly increased.
