REGULATORY UPDATES
NZ Contaminants in Soil Regulations and HAIL List Update

The NZ Ministry for the Environment is amending the National Environmental Standard for Assessing and Managing Contaminants in Soil to Protect Human Health (NESCS) and the Hazardous Activities and Industries List (HAIL).
The ministry is aiming for the new regulations to be gazetted in early 2018. The proposals for amending the NESCS and HAIL were released for public consultation late last year. Watch this space for announcements related to this update.
Building Our Future

Victoria is likely to have a stronger EPA after an inquiry recommended better resources to meet community needs and environmental concerns. The Government's vision for the EPA means the business is now realigned. For more information.

Going by the interest in our events it’s clear winter hasn’t slowed the momentum of our members. At ALGA we are busy making sure we educate, inform and keep you abreast of industry developments. Our ASBINS workshop in Perth today is sold out, like most of our events. The topic received a great response at our recent Sydney workshop too.

Just as I started writing this, I received another email asking for more information on our ASBINS workshop. For those who could not attend, remember papers are available on the ALGA website via the online resources section.

Last issue of CRONICLE announced our 10th Annual Excellence Awards – more details can be found here. This is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on your achievements and the challenges that have made you proud of them. Nominations are due by 30 September.

Coming up, we have our workshops in Auckland, Melbourne and Sydney on Groundwater Management for Infrastructure. Given the growing list of infrastructure projects in Australia and New Zealand this is a topical event that will attract the best minds and talent. Don’t forget to register. Your presence will be of benefit to the wider group of industry participants, to your organisation and last but not least to you.

As always any suggestions or concerns do not hesitate to contact me directly OR use the "soapbox" button on the website.

Enjoy!
