Dear Members and Friends
Suicide rates in Singapore have surged, reaching a 22-year high in 2022 with 476 recorded cases, up nearly 26% from the previous year. This alarming trend is particularly concerning among youths aged 10-29 and the elderly aged 70-79. Suicide remains the leading cause of death for youths, accounting for 33.6% of deaths in this age group. The rise highlights the severe mental distress many individuals face, exacerbated by social isolation, academic stress, and economic uncertainties. (Source: Samaritans of Singapore)
In conjunction with World Suicide Prevention Day, observed annually on September 10,
SICC is organizing a fireside chat on October 23, 2024, from 10:00am to 11:30am, in collaboration with Samaritans of Singapore. This event aims to raise awareness about suicide prevention and explore how businesses can create positive work environments that support good mental health. The discussion will focus on strategies for navigating suicide prevention in the workplace, emphasizing the importance of mental health support as a critical element of organizational success and employee well-being.
Since joining SICC on August 1, 2024, I’ve had the privilege of meeting many members brimming with innovative ideas to render good to business community and society. However, these ideas often need a platform for implementation. SICC is committed to being that platform, providing the resources to help you advise, advocate, and activate your ideas. Whether it’s through strategic guidance, networking opportunities, or collaborative initiatives, SICC is here to support you in turning your concepts into impactful actions. Let us work together to bring your visions to life and drive meaningful change.
Yours faithfully
