President's Message

Marie Moe

Greetings Members,

As the year is coming to a close, I’d like to thank you for all you do for your municipality.  You are the important first contact, in many cases, for the residents of your municipality.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Holiday Plea!  Mentors Needed

This is a holiday plea for some new mentors. The reality is we have a lot of new clerks in the state; particularly in towns. This coupled with the fact that many of the clerks who once served as mentors have retired, has left us with the need to ask for new mentors. The only requirement is that they have three years under their belt to volunteer to help mentor brand new clerks.

With the technology out there now, mentors can be strictly through email and phone calls, it doesn’t have to be in-person. It is really important that the best match be made in order to have a good working relationship with your Adopt-A-Clerk. This program is incredibly valuable, just ask any clerk who was mentored.

As a mentor— YOU GIVE: • Your knowledge of a clerk’s duties. • Your advice about the responsibilities of the office. • Your support to let a new clerk know that he/she is not alone.

As a mentor— YOU RECEIVE: • The satisfaction of helping a fellow clerk through the overwhelming first year of their job. • Points toward a WCPC certification. • A new colleague friendship and member of your clerk network.

We need clerks and clerk/treasurers throughout the state to volunteer as a mentor; there are currently more than two dozen counties without a single mentor on the list. This results in reaching out to clerks who aren’t on the list, or asking a clerk that might be several counties away. If you would like to give back to the Clerk profession, please consider signing up.

Click here to visit the Adopt-A-Clerk page on the WMCA website and download and submit a mentor application. If you have further questions regarding the program, contact Melissa Hongisto, Mentor Committee Chair, at melissah@townoflawrence.org. Thank you for giving back to this incredible network of Professional Clerks. Happy Holidays!

2023 Dues Renewal is Coming

The WMCA Office will be emailing out your WMCA 2023 dues renewal statement on Friday, December 30th.  Your dues should be paid by the end of January.

There will be a link in the email for all Active and Government Associate Members to pay with a credit card on-line or to note that you will be sending in a check.

For our Vendors/Associate Members:  since only the actual member can access our system, and most of you pass the membership form on to an assistant to take care of it, your email will have a form attached.  Print it out, fill it out, and credit card info can be written on it or write a check and mail in the form with payment.

If you have any questions, please contact ExecDirector@wisclerks.org.

Merry Christmas

Happy New Year

and Good-Bye!

     Waving Goodbye

I have held just 3 jobs in my adult life.  For about 16 years I was in the private sector working in the offices of Schweiger Industries in Jefferson.  Then I spent the next almost 15 years, going from Administrative Assistant to Clerk/Treasurer in Jefferson and then moving to Fort Atkinson to be the Clerk/Treasurer.  I became a member of WMCA in 1994 and have been with you ever since.  First working my way through the Board of Directors as District Co-Director; 2nd Vice, 1st Vice and then your President from 2002-2003. At the end of my term as President, WMCA Secretary Charlotte Stewart retired and I offered to take over her job of taking care of the WMCA and the rest is history!

Municipal Clerks really do hold our municipalities together. I was honored to be one of you and to have spent the last 20 years taking care of you. Continue networking with your fellow clerks.  You are not alone out there. I pray for all residents and elected officials to really learn what you do and how important you are.

TO OUR ASSOCIATE MEMBERS:  I cannot leave without thanking all of our WMCA Associate members, the vendors that are so wonderful with their support of the WMCA.  It has been awesome to work with you.  I know you will continue to support our great Municipal Clerks!

Everyone take care and Happy Holidays!!

Faith Elford, 2003-2022 WMCA Executive Director

REMEMBER to take care of the following:

Address Change: As of the first of the year, you will be mailing all membership fees or event registrations to the following address:

WMCA
7044 S. 13th Street
Oak Creek, WI  53154

Click here to download a new WMCA W-9 for your Accounts Payable Department..  PLEASE pass this along to your Accounts Payable Department and get them to make the change in your payment system.

Some things will remain the same:

Email Address:  ExecDirector@wisclerks.org will still be the main email address when the new association management company takes over.  Also note that my very old coordinator@wisclerks.org is now shut off.  Please update your contact list to make sure tyou are using ExecDirector@wisclerks.org.

Main Phone Number:  I have hung on to a landline all these years so that you could fax information to the WMCA office.  I will be shutting down my landline at the end of the year, however, 920-568-9278 will go on to be the phone number for the WMCA.

Please make sure that your Accounts Payable department understands that the address change does need to be done before your WMCA Dues Statement is emailed out at the end of the year.  With your help, I won't need to be forwarding mail to the AEG company for months to come!!
