Join us for Lobby Day and VIVA Virginia on February 1

Washington Business Journal’s 2018 Book of Lists Celebration
The Washington Business Journal is holding their annual Book of Lists Celebration on Thursday, Jan. 25 at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. The event will bring together the most influential, connected and informed people in Washington and recognize hundreds of power players from the companies featured in the Book of Lists. Metro Invites Employers to Learn How to Save Money through SmartBenefits

Metro is inviting employers from DC, Virginia and Maryland to learn how to they can save money on payroll taxes while offering a valuable benefit to their employees through the SmartBenefits® program. SmartBenefits is Metro's IRS-compliant commuter benefits program that offers employers and employees an opportunity to save thousands of dollars in taxes using pre-tax transit benefit payroll deduction; a direct employer-paid transit benefit; or a combination of the two. Volunteers Needed for Langley High School Senior Ethics Forum

Metro Langley High School is holding their annual Senior Ethics Forum to get seniors thinking about ethical situations in life after high school. Table leader volunteers are needed to work with groups of eight students to facilitate small group discussions and help students rotate through the modules. The Forum will be held in the conference rooms at Mclean Bible Church (8925 Leesburg Pike, Vienna) from 8:15 AM - 2:45 PM on Tuesday, March 13, 2018. SoSi Chief Operating Officer John Avalos Named to INSA Advisory Committee
SOSi International, LLC (SOSi) announced the selection of John Avalos, the company's Chief Operating Officer, to serve on the Intelligence and National Security Alliance (INSA) Advisory Committee, the main planning and execution element for INSA activities. INSA provides a nonpartisan forum for collaboration between public, private, and academic sectors of the intelligence and national security communities, bringing together committed experts to identify, develop, and promote practical and creative solutions to national security problems. Mr. Avalos joined SOSi in 2017 to lead day-to-day operations for the company. He brings more than 20 years of experience, most recently with Booz Allen Hamilton where he led the Business Development organization for the firm. Click here to read a full press release.

Rappahannock Media Purchases InsideNova
Rappahannock Media LLC has bought InsideNoVa.com, two of its affiliated community newspapers and the rights to publish two military base papers from Northern Virginia Media Services. InsideNoVa.com is Northern Virginia’s leading news web site, with 2 million page views and 500,000 unique visitors a month. The community newspapers included in the sale are InsideNoVa/Prince William and InsideNoVa/North Stafford, which together reach more than 40,000 households a week in those two counties. Rappahannock Media also has assumed the Department of Defense contracts to publish the Belvoir Eagle, a weekly paper serving Fort Belvoir, and the Quantico Sentry, a bi-weekly at Marine Corps Base Quantico. Transurban to Deliver Extension of the 95 Express Lanes
Governor Terry McAuliffe announced that the Commonwealth has accepted Transurban’s proposal to deliver the extension of the 95 Express Lanes south to Fredericksburg. This project is a part of the Atlantic Gateway initiative to improve travel along the 95 Corridor. With this announcement, the initiative has been expanded to include the Northbound Rappahannock River Crossing, which is a major priority of the Fredericksburg region. In 2022, the 95 corridor from the Potomac River to Fredericksburg will be upgraded. The initiative was made possible through partnerships with the private sector and a grant from the federal government. Click here to read a full press release.
