Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce Applauds Amazon’s Decision to Locate Second Headquarters in Northern Virginia
Yesterday, Amazon announced that it will locate a portion of its second headquarters – “HQ2” – in Northern Virginia, bringing tens of thousands of additional jobs to the region over the next decade. 238 North American cities and regions responded to Amazon’s HQ2 RFP. In January 2018, Amazon selected twenty finalists, including Northern Virginia. Among its requirements, Amazon noted its desire to locate HQ2 in a major metropolitan area with access to a highly-educated workforce, a robust transportation network, access to an international airport, and a stable and business friendly environment. Keynote Speaker Announced for GovCon Talent in the Next Gen on 11/19
Now is a critical time in the gov con industry to focus on the 4 R’s: Recruit, Retain, Retire, Reward. How can the industry better engage employees, specifically millennials, as a wave of retirement has happened within the gov con industry? Capital Region Workforce Summit on 12/5
The Northern Virginia Chamber, in cooperation with the Greater Washington Partnership, invites you to the Capital Region Workforce Summit – a conversation with top leaders in the business community that will address the most pressing issues affecting our region’s workforce on Wednesday, December 5 from 8:30 – 11:00 AM at the Inova Conference Center in Fairfax. Despite the critical role that human capital plays in business outcomes, it has struggled to gain and retain its seat at the executive table. Even with one of the most educated populations in the United States, firms of all sizes in the Capital Region are struggling to recruit, develop, and retain the talent they need. Eileen Ellsworth to Present at TedxTysons on November 30
Eileen Ellsworth, President and CEO, Community Foundation for Northern Virginia and Executive Committee for the Northern Virginia Chamber, is one of 14 speakers presenting at TEDxTysons on Friday, November 30th. The TEDx Program is designed to help communities, organizations and individuals spark conversation and connect through local TED-like experiences. Community Foundation Earns 4-Star Rating on Charity Navigator
The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia’s strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency have earned it a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator. Since 2002, using objective analysis, Charity Navigator has awarded only the most fiscally responsible organizations a 4-star rating. In 2011, Charity Navigator added 17 metrics, focused on governance and ethical practices as well as measures of openness, to its ratings methodology. These Accountability & Transparency metrics, which account for 50 percent of a charity’s overall rating, reveal which charities operate in accordance with industry best practices and whether they are open with their donors and stakeholders. The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia Launches The Ross-Roberts Fund for the Arts
The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia launched The RossRoberts Fund for the Arts. The mission of the new fund is to celebrate, promote, and support the arts in Northern Virginia. Thanks to a generous donation from Stephen Roberts and his donor advised fund, the Sue Goetz Ross and Stephen S. Roberts Endowment Fund, this new fund is endowed as part of The Permanent Fund for Northern Virginia, forever able to make grants to support the arts in our region. FCCAC Names Jerome Barrett as Recipient of “Helen Thomas Second Chance Award”
Receiving the “Helen Thomas Second Chance Award” is Jerome (Jerry) Barrett, who joined the Falls Church Cable Access Board in 2016 and helped guide the Board with his wisdom and historical knowledge of the Falls Church Community. The award honors a person whose individual efforts provided a Second Chance for success to a another person, or entity.
