Beginning the Year, and Dean Role, with Gratitude: A Letter from Maryland Smith's New Dean, Prabhudev Konana
Dear Smith Alumni,
I wish you a joyful and purposeful new year. This is my first week as dean of Maryland Smith and it is indeed an honor and a privilege to serve you all.
I imagine that you, like me, are feeling grateful for the return to normalcy that looks possible in 2021. I’m full of gratitude: for the scientists who raced to bring us a vaccine. For the doctors and nurses who toiled without rest to care for the sick. For the faculty who taught in person and online while juggling their personal lives. For staff who worked tirelessly to provide the best support possible for faculty and the best experience possible for students. For students who showed resilience in the face of challenges they never could have imagined. For our loyal alumni who continue to support the school, our students, faculty and staff through this unique time.

As we wrap up the 2020 calendar year, we asked members of our Alumni Chapter Board and Young Alumni Council to share some of their favorite events and initiatives from 2020, along with what they are most looking forward to in the months to come.
Jitin “Miki” Ahuja ’97, MBA/MS ’02: My favorite initiative has been the effort to spearhead and create a B1G task force comprising of peer schools for the purpose of networking, sharing best practices, joint initiatives and leveraging the collective strength of board members and leaders.
Ben Hawtof ’17: I'm looking forward to developing unique experiences as the pandemic (hopefully) subsides and we emerge from our "shells."
