Chico State joins BlueTechValley effort to support innovation!

As the most populous city in Butte County, the City of Chico is thrilled to be a part of the BlueTechValley Initiative. While Chico is home to internet retailers such as Build.com and Amain.com, a large part of Chico’s economy is based on agriculture. Thousands of almond and walnut trees surround the city. The possibility of identifying and supporting innovation in the areas of agriculture, water and energy is exciting to Chico State as well as to industry. Chico’s other crops also include rice, kiwis, olives, and peaches; there is a wealth of opportunities for more efficient processes.
The economy in the surrounding area is also tied to water, and as California has been tasked with investing in water infrastructure projects, this is an issue that needs some of the brightest minds in solving water problems. Being able to support and encourage entrepreneurial thinking in water storage or even alternative energy will certainly invigorate the economy as a whole. Having Chico State as a BTV Innovation Cluster Hub will make it easier to provide services to assist innovators in the area.

WET Member Highlight: Waterfind |

Waterfind, a WET Center member and Australian born company, was founded in the early 1980's. Australia, plagued by chronic drought and water scarcity, needed a market based water management solution to conserve water and sustain the irrigated agricultural sector. By the early 2000's, Waterfind created the world’s first electronic water exchange which enabled farmers and government agencies to purchase and sell water, as well as purchase, sell, and lease water rights.
Waterfind launched its efforts in California in late 2014 by developing the Water Accounting and Management Platform (WAMP), a cloud-based, software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform, which is purpose-built to assist Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs) with administering and implementing the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA). The WAMP is a patent pending platform that enables users to: create water budgets without the use of a meter, engage members online, and improve the quality of data.
Since the passage of SGMA, demands for information on water consumption, and mechanisms for improving the stewardship of water have steadily increased. Waterfind’s Water Accounting and Management Platform meets the needs of GSAs and engineering firms to navigate SGMA’s uncharted waters. Waterfind understands the importance of collaboration, and is pleased to offer free access to the latest BETA version of WAMP Lite and Core modules.
