Northern Virginia Chamber Announces Julie Coons as Next President and CEO
The Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce announced that Julie Coons, CAE will serve as the Chamber’s next President and CEO effective September 10, 2018. Ms. Coons has significant experience leading regional and national business organizations, currently serving as Chief Operating Officer of the Council of Better Business Bureaus based in Arlington, Virginia. Ms. Coons brings to the Northern Virginia Chamber diverse experience leading regionally-focused business organizations, guiding financial and brand transformations, and successfully advocating for business in local, state, national and international arenas. Among her many leadership roles, she served previously as President and CEO of the Electronic Retailing Association and, prior to that role, as President and CEO of the Maryland Tech Council. PolicyMaker Series: 10th Congressional District Debate 2018

The Loudoun Chamber, along with regional business and academic partners, will host U.S. Representative Barbara Comstock (R) and her challenger, State Senator Jennifer Wexton (D), in a debate between the candidates for Virginia’s 10th Congressional District seat, a race that will help determine the balance of power in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2019. The debate will be held on Friday, September 21 from 8:00-10:00AM at The National in Leesburg. This debate is being presented in partnership with the Dulles Chamber, Greater Reston Chamber, Greater McLean Chamber, Northern Virginia Chamber, Tysons Regional Chamber, the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University and the Northern Virginia Technology Council. Annual Capital Region Business Forum on 9/6

The Annual Capital Region Business Forum will be held this year on Thursday, September 6 from 7:30-9:30AM at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner. The Forum will provide key leaders the opportunity to discuss their cooperative efforts to bolster the regional economy in an ever competitive global marketplace. The event will address opportunities and challenges that affect the District of Colombia, the State of Maryland, and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Learn more about the event and register here

Northern Virginia Regional Elected Leaders Summit NEXT WEDNESDAY 8/29
Join the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce, the Prince William Chamber of Commerce, the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce and the Northern Virginia Regional Commission for a roundtable featuring the Mayor of the City of Alexandria (invited) and Chairs of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William Counties NEXT WEDNESDAY, August 29 from 8:00-11:00AM at Waddell Theater! Leadership Fairfax’s Emerging Leaders Institute Now Accepting Applications
Leadership Fairfax is currently accepting applications for their Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI) Class of 2019. The Emerging Leaders Institute is designed for new to mid-level professionals of any age with a desire to improve and increase their leadership competencies, partner with community organizations and expand their professional networks. The program begins in September and lasts for 10 months, educating participants in various leadership skills including conflict management, community outreach, negotiations, public speaking, project management, media training and communications. Hopecam Celebrates 15 Years with Annual Gala on 10/19
Hopecam is celebrating 15 years of helping children with cancer defeat social isolation by connecting them to their classrooms, friends, and support systems while in treatment. To celebrate this milestone, Hopecam is holding their annual Gala on Friday, October 19th at The Silverline Center in Tysons. SOSi Hires Former Acting Deputy Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as Vice President for Corporate Security
SOS International LLC (SOSi) announced the hiring of Peter T. Edge as its Vice President for Corporate Security, tasked with strengthening all facets of security at SOSi for both employees and clients. Mr. Edge retired as a member of the U.S. Government Senior Executive Service with over 32 years of federal and state law enforcement experience. Since 1993, he served as a special agent of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and its predecessor agency, the U.S. Customs Service. He eventually became the Deputy Associate Director, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in 2011 and acting Deputy Director in 2017. To read a full press release, click here.

Dewberry Selected to Design Route 7 Corridor Improvements
Dewberry has been selected by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to provide transportation engineering services for the Route 7 corridor improvement project in Fairfax County, Virginia. The firm is teamed with Shirley Contracting Company, LLC on the design-build project. The project is intended to widen Route 7 from a four-lane divided highway to a six-lane divided highway from Reston Avenue to Jarrett Valley Drive. To read a full press release, click here.
