Greetings!
It is certainly an exciting season for our National Capital Chapter as we drive towards much anticipated events.
On June 3rd, we will begin presenting the ASIS NCC CPP Review Course in Reston, Virginia, which will develop over the course of four Saturday mornings. If you missed the emails or have any questions regarding the course, please contact the Review Coordinator, Kevin Peterson, CPP.
Next up, the ASIS National Capital Chapter will host its annual Security Seminar on June 14th in Fairfax, VA. In addition to the exhibits, networking and lunch, there will be motivating educational presentations from industry professionals.
This year our annual Golf Tournament will be scheduled during the month of October. We have received requests to avoid the mid-summer heat/vacation times, and want to accommodate as many of our attendees as possible! If you can participate as a volunteer for this event (golf expertise not required) please contact Golf Tournament Committee Chair Jim Saulnier, CPP ASIS VP Region 5A, or Scott Fischer, CPP, PSP, Volunteer Coordinator.
Thank you for your continued dedication to our National Capital Chapter, and I look forward to speaking with you soon.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Kathy Lavinder
|
If you ask Kathy Lavinder to describe her employment history, she will tell you she is a bit of a chameleon.
Seventeen
years ago, Lavinder founded her recruiting firm, Security &
Investigative Placement Consultants LLC, and as the owner/Executive
Director, “does it all”. She develops clients, executes on
recruiting engagements, interacts with candidates and job seekers,
handles administrative tasks and provides guidance and support for two
recruiters who work with her.
Kathy began her career as a broadcast journalist, and worked as a TV reporter/anchor, then a producer, writer and manager for ABC News. After moving to the DC area, Kathy applied her interviewing skills to her role as a private investigator working for Investigative Group International.
Kathy said she quickly realized the extent to which security issues and investigative matters relate to each other. She had a eureka moment while recruiting for several roles at the firm and decided to start a niche recruiting firm specializing in filling security and investigative roles. Her company delivers highly qualified and diverse candidates, the best of the best, to clients across the U.S. and around the world.
Kathy has been involved with ASIS and the ASIS NCC for more than 17 years and said ASIS is the most collegial group she has found. “I value the sharing, peer-to-peer learning, networking and dedication to professionalism. Simply put ASIS helps me do my job better”, Kathy said.
She also likes that the NCC is creative in its offerings, taking members ‘behind the scenes’ to learn about security challengers within a variety of organizations in the region. “No matter the topic or the event, I always enjoy catching up with colleagues and hearing from high-caliber speakers”, Kathy said.
