A Word from the Director | July 2019
 

Summertime is reunion time in North Carolina and across the US. We come back to high schools and colleges. We get together with friends. We bring together our extended families. We reconnect to people and places that matter to us.

Sometimes reunions are hard – the people have changed; the places have changed. We’ve changed.

But we come back because it is worth it to us; there is something about it that makes it “worth it.”

It’s in that spirit that we are calling people in communities across the state back together on August 14 for what we are calling “Reconnect Day.”

We’re asking people to come together to talk about an issue they care about.

ReCONNECT to Economic Opportunity Registration Now Open
 

Join us on October 15, 2019 in Charlotte, for our third forum in the ReCONNECT NC series, ReCONNECT to Economic Opportunity.

EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION PERIOD: JULY 15 - AUGUST 15

The forum will focus on creating and strengthening pathways to sustainable wage employment for existing workers, especially those earning lower incomes. We will examine ways to connect adult workers to information about sustainable-wage employment, identify accessible education opportunities and promote programs that remove non-academic barriers to, and provide support for, postsecondary education.

By providing health care, education, and training that empowers people to improve themselves holistically, not just economically.

August 14 is ReCONNECT NC DAY
 

Wednesday, August 14! This culture-shifting movement of conversations across differences in North Carolina will kick-off with the first ReCONNECT NC Day on August 14th!

ReCONNECT NC Day is a bold annual occasion for North Carolinians of diverse backgrounds and perspectives to rally around conversations that create greater connection.

Through in-person and virtual conversations from the mountains to the coast exploring any topic of interest, people of all stripes will listen first to understand and revitalize North Carolina together.

Service Year NC - New AmeriCorps VISTA Position (Randolph Partnership for Children)
 

The Institute for Emerging Issues at NC State is recruiting for a new AmeriCorps VISTA position with Randolph County Partnership for Children.

The VISTA at the Randolph Partnership for Children will lead the organization’s fiscal and service mapping project for services and supports to families with children birth-5. The work will address food deserts, child care deserts, school readiness, health, and toxic stress.
