New Event: Shift the Conversation: Creating a Culture of Respect in the Workplace
The Women in Business Council of the Northern Virginia Chamber has themed 2018 as “The Year of the Shift”. So many discoveries and conversations continue to emerge that shed light on discrimination, abuse, and assault. We believe there is value in shifting the conversation to promote the impact of respect among all genders. Creating a culture based on the foundation of trust and respect is a tenant of strong leadership. Join us in a dialog led by Bill Weber, Chief Executive Officer of KeyW Corporation and Marion Ruzecki, Chief People Officer, to discuss how they are intentional about building a culture of trust and why it makes a difference to their clients, employees, and community. Register for the She-Suite® Summit!

Northern Virginia Chamber Lobby Day and Viva Virginia
The Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce was well represented during the Chamber’s annual Lobby Day in Richmond. Chamber members visited with a number of influential legislators including Delegate Tim Hugo, Senator Dick Saslaw and Speaker of the House of Delegates Kirk Cox. The day was highlighted by a visit with Governor Ralph Northam. Throughout the day Chamber members had a chance to detail the issues that impact their businesses including workforce development, education, healthcare, and transportation. Additionally, Viva Virginia, Northern Virginia's annual legislative reception was held in from 6:00 - 8:00pm at Kitchen on Cary on Thursday February 1. The event was an opportunity for members of the business community to network with legislators and elected officials. Lieutenant Governor, Justin Fairfax was among the many elected officials in attendance who spoke about the current General Assembly in Richmond and the important role of local chambers.

Volunteers Needed for Langley High School Senior Ethics Forum

Langley High School is holding their annual Senior Ethics Forum to get seniors thinking about ethical situations in life after high school. Table leader volunteers are needed to work with groups of eight students to facilitate small group discussions and help students rotate through the modules. The Forum will be held in the conference rooms at Mclean Bible Church (8925 Leesburg Pike, Vienna) from 8:15 AM - 2:45 PM on Tuesday, March 13, 2018. Community Foundation for Northern Virginia Launches Opportunity Index
The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia announced the launch of The Opportunity Index for Northern Virginia, an interactive dashboard to serve as a data resource for community knowledge and strategic philanthropic giving, and to help grow philanthropy for our most economically disadvantaged populations. The data and accompanying report were prepared by The Commonwealth Institute for Fiscal Analysis, a nonprofit think-tank that provides credible, independent, and accessible information and analyses of fiscal and economic issues with particular attention to the impacts on low- and moderate-income persons. ACT I Announces ISO 9001:2015 Certification
Advanced Concepts and Technologies International, LLC (ACT I), an industry-leading provider of Total Acquisition Management and Foreign Military Sales solutions, announced its independent third-party certification in meeting the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015. The new ISO standard provides a process-based approach that helps consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements while safeguarding against deficiencies and ensuring customer satisfaction. Atlas Research Adds John O. Boochever as Chief Digital Strategy and Innovation Officer

Atlas Research announced the addition of John O. Boochever as Chief Digital Strategy and Innovation Officer. Mr. Boochever brings more than 30 years of experience to Atlas Research in defining and driving technology-enabled strategic change in large, complex organizations at the C-level. His professional experience includes global and regional practice leadership as well as management committee positions at two leading general management consulting organizations. At Atlas Research, Mr. Boochever will lead the strategy to digitally enable its service lines and develop staff to deliver world-class digital and technology solutions to clients. He will also develop and drive Atlas Research’s technology-based service lines, focusing on data management strategy and analytics, and business process architecture design and development. PenFed Credit Union Announces Plans to Raise Assistance Dog through Canine Companions for Independence®
PenFed has announced plans to raise an assistance dog through Canine Companions for Independence®. Employees at PenFed’s Tysons headquarters will have the opportunity to apply to become a Volunteer Puppy Raiser for a two-year training period. PenFed announced its commitment at The National Press Club on Saturday, January 20 at Side by Side: An Evening with Veterans & Service Dogs, benefiting Canine Companions. The event recognized the life-changing relationship between veterans and their assistance dogs as a critical part of service members’ recovery and transition back home. SOSi President & CEO Julian Setian Joins PSC Executive Committee
SOSi announced the selection of Julian Setian, the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, to serve on the Professional Services Council (PSC) Executive Committee. PSC represents more than 400 companies that provide the federal government with a broad range of services, including information technology, engineering, logistics, facilities management and consulting. The companies represented by PSC employ hundreds of thousands of Americans in all 50 states. PSC’s Executive Committee is made up of 15 members, including the presidents of CSRA, CACI and Parsons Federal. It is tasked with policy oversight and setting the direction of the association. United Bankshares, Inc. Announces Earnings for the Fourth Quarter and Year of 2017
United Bankshares, Inc. reported that earnings for 2017 were $150.6M or $1.54 per diluted share, compared to earnings of $147.1M or $1.99 per diluted share in 2016. "2017 was another successful year for United Bankshares," stated Richard M. Adams, United’s Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. "We increased earnings before income taxes to a record $285 million. We increased dividends to $1.33 per share which represented the 44th consecutive year of dividend increases to our shareholders. This is a record only one other major banking company in the USA has been able to achieve. In addition, we completed our merger with Cardinal Financial Corporation, the 31st and largest acquisition under the current administration." United is one of two major banking companies in the U.S. that have been able to achieve such a record. For more information, click here.

SSi Consulting Announces New CEO

SSi Consulting announced that Gary Prioste has assumed the position as CEO. Prioste will replace Bill Aiton, who served as CEO for 13 years. This move follows the acquisition of SSi Consulting by Menlo Technologies earlier this year. Prioste is also the CEO of Menlo Technologies, a global services technology firm headquarter in Santa Clara, CA. Karen Riordan, Vice President of Sales and Jeff Vonasek, Vice President of Professional Sales, will continue to serve their roles at SSi Consulting. For more information, click here.

CohnReznick 2017 Not-for-Profit Governance and Financial Management Survey

According to CohnReznick’s 2017 Not-for-Profit Governance and Financial Management Survey, 65% of the 400+ not-for-profit industry professionals and board members who responded to the Survey say they are “very confident” in their organizations’ governance practices – the highest confidence level since 2014. This fourth annual survey also reflects a growing concern for cybersecurity. 37% of respondents reported it to be among their organization’s top three risks (up from 22% in 2016) and 52% of the surveyed organizations reported having a cybersecurity breach response plan in place (versus just 31% in 2016). PAE Acquires Macfadden
PAE announced that it has acquired Macfadden & Associates (Macfadden), a leader in international disaster response operational support. Macfadden will expand PAE’s customer reach, building upon the relationship PAE established with USAID when PAE supported their response to the Ebola outbreak in 2015. Macfadden’s specialized capabilities and distinguished service record complements work PAE currently performs especially with the Department of State. Together, Macfadden and PAE will expand PAE’s overall portfolio and capabilities and be better situated to provide critical support. To read a full press release, click here.

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and 1776 Launching Airport Innovation Challenge
MWAA and 1776 are launching the Airport Innovation Challenge powered by UNION to activate the startup community and identify innovations that will transform the passenger journey. They are recruiting the best ideas that will enhance, attract, retain, and delight passengers to strengthen brand loyalty and shape the future of airports. The winning startups will each receive $15,000 and they will participate in the three month MWAA Innovation Lab in 1776’s Crystal City campus. To learn more and apply, click here.
