TOGETHER WE CAN DO

GREAT THINGS!

My Fellow Clerks

It is October, the leaves are turning color and we are marching full speed ahead to Election Day.

A TEASPOON OF SUGAR MAKES THE MEDICINE GO DOWN:   WMCA Board members are reviewing what you had to say about the 2018 conference so we can plan the 2019 conference to meet your needs and expectations.   Of course we see diversity of opinions when it comes to the conference but we will be looking for common themes and great ideas to improve as we move forward.   We greatly appreciate your feedback, both critical and positive.

GET OUT THERE AND SLAY:  WMCA membership provides many ways to obtain information and education including use of mentors, clerk list email, district meetings, Facebook, WMCA web page, conference and institute.   I encourage you to plug in and get connected to professional Clerks across Wisconsin.   Together, we have answers to your questions!

MISSION ACCEPTED:   Most, if not all, of our WMCA committees have met to start work on their mission.   If you are on a committee that has not met yet, please let me know so I can assist!  The Board will hold its second meeting on November 16th, 2018 to consider the budget, review the conference survey and other important issues.   Attention Committee Chairpersons:  If you have matters or reports that need to be addressed at the November Board meeting, send me a quick email.

HAIR ON FIRE?  Of course as Election Day approaches we are all experiencing those crazy busy days and looming deadlines!  Remember we are professional Clerks and how we perform our job is critically important.  Stress is not what happens in your day but how you react to what happens.   So, expect to assist a large number of voters in a politically charged environment while training and staffing your polling locations, testing your equipment, organizing supplies, securing ballots and much, much more.   Also, expect to do all of that while prioritizing and maintaining all of the other jobs you do for your municipality.  Stay calm. Stay focused. You are not alone. You got this!

 NEW IIMC CERTIFICATION - Congratulations!

I am pleased to inform you that the following individual has earned the prestigious Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC):

Sara Bruckman, CMC - Village Clerk - Village of Shorewood, WI - sbruckman@villageofshorewood.org.

The Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) is one of the two professional designations granted by IIMC and is designed to enhance the job performance of the Clerk in small and large municipalities. To earn the CMC designation, a Municipal Clerk must attend extensive education programs often totaling more than 120 educational hours. The CMC designation also requires pertinent experience in a municipality. The CMC program prepares the applicants to meet the challenges of the complex role of the Municipal Clerk by providing them with quality education in partnership with institutions of higher learning, as well as State/Provincial/National Associations. The CMC program has been assisting clerks to excel since 1970.
