FPA of MN Day at the Capitol: Advocate for MN Financial Literacy

Join the FPA of MN for a Day at the Capitol on February 22nd!

The Day at the Capitol is a great opportunity to meet with legislators to raise awareness of FPA MN and the role financial planners play in the lives of Minnesotans. This year marks the 11th annual advocacy event and brings a special opportunity to advocate for financial literacy on behalf of Minnesota youth.

Over the past year, a group of community leaders have been working on a state-wide education initiative. A partnership has been formed between this new group, the Financial Literacy Coalition of MN (FLCM), and the Minnesota Council on Economic Education (MCEE). The Coalition is advocating for a bill requiring a personal finance course for high school graduation. This bill is moving in the current MN legislative session. FPA of MN is in support of this initiative.

Day at the Capitol: Wednesday, February 22nd 8:30 am – 12:00 pm
The day will be filled with speeches from key legislation authors and FLCM and MCEE members. Attendees will meet with their legislators to ask them to support the personal finance course requirement bill and raise awareness of FPA of MN. Registration for the event will be organized by MCEE to coordinate meetings with legislators, especially between multiple constituents with the same legislators.

Please RSVP as soon as possible to the event here.

Within the RSVP link you’ll see mention of MCEE funding bills. MCEE is the leading organization for training MN economic educators. These funding bills will help to power the organization and their important role in implementing the personal finance course. Attendees will not be obligated to advocate for the MCEE funding bills.

We hope to see you there!

Bruce Lorenz, 2023 FPA of MN President
Alex Luing, 2023 FPA of MN Professional Issues Director
