On the Horizon: What's Ahead for NCEL?
Happy August, NC Emerging Leaders! We have a lot of excitement planned for this fall, so if you've been looking for an opportunity to get involved then now's the time! From mentorship to leadership opportunities to statewide events, there’s something here for everyone to take part in:
  • The 2026 NCEL Mentorship Program is open for applications—whether you’d like to share your experience as a mentor or gain perspective as a mentee, this six-month program is built for growth. This is a great opportunity for bankers at any stage of their career that want to share expertise or learn from others. Apply by October 30 to join.
  • We’re also looking for fresh voices for the 2026 NCEL Advisory Council. This group helps shape the direction of the Emerging Leaders community, connect professionals across the state, and spark new ideas. If that sounds like you, applications are due September 30!
  • Lastly, we are gathering two generations of banking leaders together in Asheville this November! Join your NCEL peers at the Omni Grove Park on November 3-4 for the NC Emerging Leaders Conference, then stay November 4-6 for the 2025 NCBA Management Forum!
This fall is full of opportunities to learn, connect, and lead. Let’s make the most of this season of growth together!

Volunteers will teach a 45-minute lesson on budgeting using a specially tailored curriculum created by the NC Emerging Leaders. The purpose of the program is not only to teach students basic components of financial education, but also to initiate and foster relationships between bankers and their communities.

Yes, You Do Belong Here:
Overcoming Imposter Syndrome with
NCEL Conference Keynote Paul Nunn
What do Maya Angelou, Lady Gaga, Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Emma Watson, and Meryl Streep all have in common? Each of them has publicly admitted to feeling like an imposter — as if they didn’t belong, and that sooner or later, someone would “find them out.” This mindset, known as the imposter syndrome, is surprisingly common — especially among emerging leaders.
In this keynote, ICC-Certified Coach and Leadership Trainer Paul Nunn will explore:
  • why imposter feelings show up,
  • how they can hold you back,
  • and, most importantly, what you can do to quiet that inner critic and move forward in your life with more confidence.
You’ll walk away with your head held high — and with practical strategies that you can use right now in your role at your bank.
