Famous for its ornate Mughal architecture, the city of Agra comprises several world heritage monuments. These include the renowned Taj Mahal, one of the seven "wonders of the world," and Agra Fort, with its two-kilometer wall of red sandstone and large landscaped gardens. The city has a laid-back lifestyle and an immense wealth of architecture, handicrafts and jewelry. Many Agra event venues offer great cuisine, while the city provides a magnificent backdrop to corporate events, conferences and meetings.
Connected by a recently built 6-lane highway to Delhi, Agra can also be reached by a 3-hour train journey from Delhi.
Chief among conference venues in Agra, the 70,000-square-foot, 341-room Jaypee Palace Hotel & Convention Centre can host up to 1,500 theater-style in its 12,535-square-foot ballroom. Eight simultaneous sessions, seating between 150 and 300, are also available. Other hotel venues in Agra include the 102-room Oberoi Amarvilas, which offers one of the best views of the Taj Mahal. Special event venues in Agra can be magical. What better than to hold an event in the land of the romantic 17th-century Taj Mahal, a monument to love? Should a conference be held in February, the Taj Mahotsav (festival) is held in Shilpgram, a crafts village and open-air emporium situated about a kilometer along the road running from the eastern gate of the Taj Mahal, is a great place to walk through. The festival features live performances of music and dance and can provide an open-air cultural evening for delegates.
Pre- and post-meeting tours from Agra can include Mathura, known for being the birthplace of Lord Krishna who features in one of India's oldest epics, the Mahabharata. Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, 60 kilometers from Agra, gets migrant birds during the winter season, including cormorant, darter, spoonbill, egret, stork and black ibis in large numbers.
